Piece of cake. Easy peezy. For me the positives of a manual outweigh the negatives. Us old timers know.

But then again, when the Jimmy is broke down, the tailgate would be fun to play with....

Easily my #1 complaint. Even after the ESP plastic box. On the plastic tray, ESP left WAY too much meat on the bone. That tray could go rearward toward the bed between the seat rails and come very close to doubling capacity.

The Toyota engineer or their manager should be tarred and feathered for the complete lack of thought that went into the CM's lack of rear seat storage. There's a video of the head designer saying that the reason they discontinued the reclining rear seat in the CM was due to customer's not wanting it as much as they just wanted storage. Their fix? Hey, let's just fill everything back there up with freakin' styrofoam!

As for the tailgate, I did like and use the built-in bumper steps on my old GMC. But I don't need the tailgate to change.

I watched a video that if the battery dies, you can't operate the tailgate on the GMC. When the reviewer asked "what happens if the battery dies", the GM engineer said "we would recommend the customer jumps the battery." So if your battery dies, or goes into safe mode, you cant unload your bed until you jump the battery. Thats just stupid, and creating problems were one didn't exist before.

    here's the video,

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5rYoAsAhcZ4

    skip to 4:40

its hilarious, the GM engineer wasn't expecting that question..."the tailgate is stuck, sooooo...what we would tell our customer is to get under the hood, jump the battery.." what a joke, and a typical oversight of GM.

"oh look a fancy tailgate that can transform into a robot that serves you beer in a chilled glass!"
    "what if the battery dies?"
"...uhh we hadn't thought of that..."

I have been waiting to see one of the new GMs with the fancy tailgate come to the shop. I’m curious as to how much they cost

I drove a standard for a few years. I know how to work them. The time I had it coincided with me working on the other side of Houston, with a ton of construction going on. It was a pain in the ass.

On top of that I had my arm in a cast for a while. That really sucked.

Most of the time...if he's changing lanes, it's because you left a 60 foot gap in front of you

Not most of the time - they come over whether or not you like it or not.

My little commuter (Cavalier) would become road pavement under an 18 wheeler. I argue not.

heck the older TRDs did too. Both my 2009 TRD and my 2013 Baja had them. They are good for running xmas lights but not a whole lot more. Current tailgate is fine with me. Bumper steps and Taco like back seat storage is what I want.

That’s fine. It’s just when they do it and I have a three MILE gap behind me that pisses me off. I’m pretty sure @Racingjohndeere55 got together with all the other truckers and made a plan to aggravate me.

That's a good feature Toyota hasn't deleted...yet. Keeps from getting 'over-revved', if downshifting at too high an RPM.

Ok, you peeps have not changed my mind on the tailgate. I do like the idea of 110v .outlets . I buy toyota because i want the most reliable truck . If toyota did introduce a super tailgate , believe me , it would be reliable . I just want the option.

No fancy tailgate wanted here, rather Toyota spend the r&d money on something that matters like better leaf springs.

I like that my 11 year old Tundra tailgate still opens and latches reliably after over 230,000 km even though I put ramps on it to load my ATV or snowmachine. I've been around enough of the big three that can't say that, and that's before the infotainmentailgate was invented.

I've lost faith in there ability to fix the cam tower issue, what company lets a problem like that linger for 10+ years. My guess is they know they will be killing off the 5.7 to make room for a new powerplant and thus the reason why they haven't invested in fixing the issue.
