My 2013 Silverado had auto 4wd. Never used it once. When I need 4wd I know it and never have a problem shifting in/out of 2-4H. I could care less about auto 4wd, in fact I wish they still had locking hubs like another poster stated on here....

Now imagine you are towing and getting 8mpg and they keep the same 6 gallons or so in reserve compared to the Tundra. You’ve then got effectively a 128 mile range while towing if you’re willing to take it all the way to empty on your gauge. What a joke

my dad drove from Denver to his house in Montana with a buddy in his gen2 sequoia (dad has a gen 2.5 tundra) and he couldn’t believe how often they had to stop for gas, the little tank was in the prior gen sequoia as well, but what a huge miss. Hopefully the aftermarket comes out with an option soon, otherwise a sequoia is off the list for me. Towing, big tires, boondoggling, etc- all not that cool with a witty bitty tank.

I had my 09 Crewmax for 13 years and this is the longest I have held a vehicle. I was topping off the coolant for the last few of those years and managed to dump it without changing the water pump. That powertrain probably could have run another 10 years problem free if I wanted to keep the truck overall badly enough to do that and maybe do another set of tires and brakes. I consider it the most solid half ton V8/tranny combo of its era. I have no illusions about the new generation of tech and engineering. No Matter what I might’ve chosen I wouldn’t be here swearing to everyone I’m going to be getting 10 problem free years out of it. We just won’t know for awhile what the track record of these powertrains will be except Ford has at least been doing TT v6s for over a decade already.

I love this truck but am not emotionally attached. GEICO gives me mechanical breakdown coverage out to 7 years so at that point I’m going to make an unemotional judgment call based on its track record to that point about whether I will keep it another 5-7 years.

No, i don’t pretend it’s going to be a more rock solid choice than people who went for Gen3 Tundras on here. Nor would I pretend I was good as gold had I gotten a Tundra. It was just the best feature package I saw out there for my own wants and needs. The powertrain performance and Propower on board kinda hooked me when I found it on a lot and read up.

2G Sequoia has a 26.4g fuel tank. Towing at high altitude you maybe have 150 mile range. Denver to Durango is 330 miles. Towing you refuel twice to make sure you get to Durango as your third fuel stop to get to points beyond. TTV6 engines drink fuel at close to the same rate towing over the Rockies because they're in boost all the time.

I like Yota's fulltime 4HI for most situations in the Rockies in winter. For example, Vail pass. That pass is potholed and icy from December through March. I'm not f'ing around swapping back and forth from 2HI to 4HI with a trailer hooked up, trying to compete with 18-wheelers and the Audi and Mercedes crowd doing ski trips on an icy two lane.
I dearly want a Powerboost with a hihrise topper to work for us. That beast could tow and power the trailer. Can I afford one new? No. The shell would be about $4k on top of the buyin cost, so about $80k to get a higher trim with 4A. I'll look around in a few years, see if there's a bargain. My focus now is to find a cargo van to replace the Chevy Express 2500 RWD with 260k miles. That thing is horrible in snow.

If you're not against used, you can find 2021 Powerboost's in lariat ultimate package for $55K. I have an office truck that is 2021 with 22,000 miles, powerboost, lariat ultimate that's trade in value is now $51K. Probably going to keep plummeting until at least mid spring.

Thanks. I don't want to shit on your post but I can get a Ford Transit 2500 hiroof AWD for less than that. AWD is not equal to 4WD, but adequate in Colorado. The generator is intriguing, would love to have it if it's reliable.

I know, you referenced $80K for powerboost and topper, so was just trying to play devil's advocate. Either option will be great.

The key words to your reply is "wet" pavement. If you've ever live ina snowy region you would understand why some of us use 4wd auto. Pulling away from snowy, icy intersections, 4wd auto kicks in smoothly with no lost traction. Don't have to switch t4wd then back to 2wd when you get to dry pavement.

Its about as useful as an EV truck for towing. Might as well get a Rivian or Lighting for the money they want for the Sequoia. Then its even more efficient, way more power, oh and they have AWD!

My GX460 has a larger tank

Toyota is really completely out of touch with reality when it comes to the BOF trucks/suvs now. There are so many people on the 3.0 Duramax group im on on Facebook that said they have a 2022 Tundra and are already dumping them for Silverados.

IMO winters in Iowa, I've seldom have to put it 4 wheel these Tundras have such a great traction system, tires do make the difference, a good all season radial will get you where you need to go.

I just sold my Sierra Denali that had the 4wd auto. You still had to turn the know to engage system. On used it on snowy roads. Tire make more of a difference than anything. Tundra is such a better product than the GMC where everything expensive breaks all the time
