Oh yeah.....especially Lawrence Welk. We only had one channel in Drain, Orygun. ABC out of Eugene in the late 60's. My favorite show ever to this day was Roone Arledge's ABC produced "Wide World of Sports" and most of all..."American Sportsman"! Hands down. Arledge also produced the Olympics for ABC back then. Olympics has been woke since NBC fu^ked things up. BTW....free, no bs, boxing. Can anyone name the best annoying boxing play by play announcer back then? Proud hard ass USMC Boomer here. Boomers rule!

I lost my collection in an apt fire when I was going to college. I had well over 100 of his novels including a leather-bound set. I'm gradually building it back up but only going after the vintage paperback covers.

I like Shalako a lot. L'Amour was going to build a town on land he owned here in CO near the 4 Corners and was to be named Shalako. Too much$$$ and he died which sort of ended that.....:(

I have a bunch of 1st print paperbacks in my storage unit. My Mom saved them all. Might have to dig them out once things warm up.

Everyone remembers her from Laverne and Shirley, but no one seems to remember her from The First Nudie Musical. Don't get excited, she wasn't one of the "nudies", but she showed her acting talents even back then.

Oh Yeah... the moderator, old ass Marlin Perkins, would direct his younger sidekick Jim Fowler in handling all the dangerous animals. Like, "Jump in the water Jim, and grab (the 20 foot live pissed off) anaconda". Poor Jim... but frigging hilarious. TV was sometimes crazy back then.

This thread is a hoot! Hell we did not have a tv when I was a toddler…. I’m a Boomer I, and avoided the draft. I think the young people need an incentive to go to school or go fight in a war to get some of your shit together.
I did not know they had a I or II classification for boomers…

Yeah, I didn't know that either. And never heard of "Generation Jones." Didn't really know of any of these for a long time except "the Greatest Generation," and Gen X. Then suddenly there was a Gen Z and "Boomers." Didn't know I was a Boomer 'til a few years back. Of course these days time gets away from me. :D

I wonder how they would have reacted when the parents also introduced the idea that the dial also had letters, and how to interpret that? :) I'm semi old, but still remember a phone number we had as a kid. GENeva-6- 8509.

I think you have officially reached “old” when you see an obituary for someone you went to high school with and it’s no longer a shock.

I’m still a few years from that - but sadly it’s becoming more common. The first few were some sad as funerals. Bunch of 30 something’s stopping in to pay respects and say “they went much too young” - sadly once you hit 40 it becomes more an accepted thing - imagine 50 will be “that’s too bad” or possibly “should have taken better care of himself” - got a year to I hit that milestone - hopefully.

I got used to losing people I went to High School with when I was still in High School. Medical incompetence got one, drugs got a couple more, and car wrecks took a couple. My daughter gave me this book a few years ago, it gets more true every year now.
