No claim to fame though I would have loved to meet Mr Williams. My dad said he was always overflowing with non-stop energy.

I have my 30-words/min cert here somewhere.

Reminds me of Dennis Quaid and Harrison Ford. Didn’t Anthony Quinn father a child in his 80’s?

I remember BJ and the Bear. I liked that series.

Anyone remember a Saturday morning show named Ark II? Can’t find it streaming anywhere. Also liked Isis (Oaisis, maybe?) and Shazam!.

Going back to 70’s - Rockford Files, Kojak, Baretta, Columbo, but never really got into Charlie’s Angels. Really liked Hawaii Five-O - Book ‘em Danno.

That's why I didn't list it. And yes Emergency came on after.
Do you know what the call sign was for Emergency?

You kids thinking 46 is old is hilarious..

I watched Captian Kangaroo, The Electric Company, and Slam Bang Theatre when it was in their first runs, not just repeats.
Yep, in black and white on a tiny TV with rotary tuning knobs, rabbit ear antennas with tinfoil on them, and only 4 or 5 channels.
They all when off the air at midnight, and played the Star Spangled Banner before signing off.
There was no TV at 2AM.

Isis… white costume with skirt… was one of the regular features on The Saturday Morning Super 7, along with the Wonder Twins (fist bump: ‘shape of a…’). You’re the first person I’ve encountered in decades that remembers Isis the superhero, not the terrorist organization.

Yes, that one. She was a cutie. Now, the Wonder Twins, I don’t recall. I lived in the boonies growing up, so we didn't get all the channels. I remember NBC, CBS, two independent stations, and a Spanish station. We had no cable, just a 15-foot antenna at the top of the house that we sometimes had to rotate to clear the picture.

My dad was of Scottish descent and stereotypically tight with his finances. We forever had the black and white tv with the rotary dial and rabbit ears as well. In fact, I'm sure we were the last people in our neighborhood to get a color tv when they finally came out. My next door neighbor had a B&W tv with a "clicker" remote and I thought that was the coolest thing ever. I childishly asked my dad if we could get one of those, too. His predictable response was, "nope, don't need it, that's what we have you and your sister for".

In North Florida where I grew up we had a locally produced, early morning, before school program called "Ranger Hal". It's premise was that a forest ranger would climb down a ladder on screen to give you the idea that he was coming down from his lofty perch to start the show. It was a big local hit with all the kids of my generation in the area. Fast forward 10 years and the show was long since cancelled and forgotten by everyone but us kids of that certain age. "Ranger Hal" (I don't remember the actors real name) had moved on and had started selling insurance or something and had business dealings with my father. We were once "at the mall" and bumped into the former Ranger Hal and his family. He struck up a conversation with my dad and as still a kid I remember being duly impressed that my dad new this "celebrity" on a personal level. Such is the power of television on young minds. I remember addressing him as Ranger Hal and he laughed it off but his wife rolled her eyes and his kids looked like they wanted to climb under a rock. My first "brush with greatness".

My dad was that way when microwaves came out... 'we don't need that $hit'

What about when Beta first came out; they were like $800 and only your rich or 'well off' friends had them. Freakin' things had a remote that was attached to the unit by a cable!!!

Ok, I'm done feeling old... Off to another thread!!!

To further date myself with kids shows, I also remember re-runs of "Howdy Doody" (barely), but definitely the Shari Lewis Show ('60-'63) with puppets Lambchop and Hush Puppy, also a locally produced version of Romper Room - with "Miss Penny", and a locally produced "Popeye's Pals" show with a costumed ship captain "Skipper Ed" (played by local actor Ed McCullers). Skipper Ed would host a group of about 25 kids whose parents had paid to have them on the show, usually as a birthday treat or something of the like. You would usher in the Popeye cartoons by yelling out in unison "let's go Popeye"! The highlight of the show inevitably was the part where they would let every kid introduce himself on camera and give a shout out to someone watching, i.e. "My name is Stanley, and I would like to say hello to my mom and dad and everyone who is watching". It was absolutely hilarious watching the kids freeze up when it was their turn on camera and stumble through their time in the limelight. More than once, bad words or topics you couldn't express on television then were accidentally transmitted as the show was broadcast "live". These were the origins of local kids shows during the infancy of television in the early sixties.

As a side note, when I was in Junior High School (now Middle School) at Kirby-Smith Jr. High (named after a confederate general, of course) Ed McCullers daughter attended the same school and was an "Office Aide" who ran messages for the school secretary, dean of girls, etc. Invariably when she entered a classroom full of kids to deliver a message, the class would yell out "let's go Popeye"! Poor girl. I hope she had therapy or whatever to work it all out... just kids being kids in an earlier and simpler time.
