Currently I have a 10kw northern lights with a yanmar engine, great generator!
I ran a 2 cylinder lister for a while but found the 3 cylinder northern lights was better for my needs.
I could never get the lister to provide smooth power, always had a slight surge in lights and the TV.
Fuel consumption was about the same between the two, around half gallon an hour.

And you run that 24/7? You run solar for the summer?

Correct, I was 24/7 on Genny, no solar.
I have since moved and I'm on the grid now.

Part of me thinks that living off the grid would be cool......I feel like i would end up having to have some ridiculously overpowered redundant setup with solar and battery banks and have a backup generator.....i think i'll just stay tied to the grid.
Happy to be on the grid?

    Yes, My wallet especially! Lol
The grid is more convenient, no weekly maintenance, no nasty diesel to mess with (I hate that shit!)
But when the power goes out for hours at a time in the winter I surly miss my Genset!
