Well I'll be damned.....glad i'm not loosing my mind about that spacer. I'll reach out to whipple.

I had a sneaking suspicion that it was the reservoir cap.

My kit had the 2017TUND-BOLT4004-02 bag in it, but that isn't the one with the step spacer in it. Is that what you meant?

Yup. I couldn't tell who's writing was who's on the sheets, but noticed that the parts sheet had the -01 circled and -02 red lettered to the side. Mine didn't have the red letter, just the different numbers on the parts bag.

And just to beat a dead horse, your kit came with injectors, yah?

Anything in black ink on the pack slip was whipple. I wrote in red and highlighter.

    Yeah it came with injectors
    Whipple DW.jpg

Another question. Anyone know what the spacer/bolts are for in the bottom right of the box?

I think the spacers are the intake box spacers. They were different on the 2.9 kit, but at some point you needed to the tilt the bottom half of the air filter box upwards to give a straighter shot at the throttle body. I know the intake tube changed from the 2.9 to 3.0, but I still think you need to elevate the box. But they may be for something else..

They weren't on the packlist for that box. Some random bolts/spacers, lol.....that'll give me some nice stress when i try to figure out where they go.

I'll have to go back through the instructions....I dont remember reading anything about that...but makes some sense.

That was just my supposition after puzzling over the spacers as well. The 2.9 kit had some C shaped 1/8"x 1/2" steel flat bar for the air box spacers. And, like I said, the intake tube changed so maybe the spacers are no longer needed. Let us know what you figure out :)

Getting tools and area cleaned up to swap transmission out. Spoke with John at IPT on rebuild and using new OEM torque converter. Talked fluids, Dex3 and Idemitsu type 4, was more interested in the type 4 having the similar additive pack for warranty.
The hardest part will be that passenger header with that stupid air tube!

    WOOHOO!!

Interested to hear what he had to say about the fluids; when I spoke with him a while back he said WS period. Still odd to me that Dex3 is kinda fine. Dunno why, just is.

He was stating dex3 may not have the needed additives for longevity. He was interested in the idemitsu tls 4 that had similar additive package as WS. All the Toyota training says to use WS but we know others will work just take a hit on mpg.

If you swap out the dex3 every year you are good. It just breaks down quickly with high hp and heat we throw at it. That was the only reason asking about the idemitsu add pack and giving a warranty on his work. I was just up front with what my plans were.

Been working with Sniv on tuning this thing today. First tune from him and limp mode came back but he solved it quickly and tweaked from there. I don't think he's quite done yet but she running good good now :muscleflexing:

Got those exhaust manifold nuts soaking. Noticed my Sequoia t-case is seeping oil at the fipg case seal. So I'll have to split the case to re-seal. Will have to order front rear shaft seals and t-case oil pump o-ring and the square cut seal on pump rotor. Hope they are in stock. As usual header manifold nuts are holding me up...

Dex III now and I plan on 30k drain and fills (just one round), is that sufficient in your mind? I have the nomad valve body with OE pan and I'm pleased with the firm shifts.

I believe WAT mentioned complete yearly exchange of fluid. Followed by a drain and fill as getting all the fluid from torque converter is not 100%.
    From post #21892:
    Screenshot_20250902_055238.jpg
Edit: @Jowett mentioned the Idemitsu TLS type 4 fluid was similar to Dex3 with a WS additive pack. The TLS type 4 has similar viscosity to Dex3 but is a synthetic blend.
Too many decisions... I ran it for a few months before my transmission went out. Had issues way before fluid swap.

Changed out tensioner and idler pulley since I'm exactly at 90k miles. Surprisingly neither had any play whatsoever. Oh well fresh ones are on.

I’ve noticed lately I get very little oil in my catchcan when I check it. I don’t check it at any set mileage interval, just when I think about it. Probably 2-3 times per oil change. Anymore all I get is a few drops out. I thought I used to get a bit more in the past. Could this be from consistent use of a good quality 5w30? Been using Pennzoil ultra platinum. I do want to replace the PCV valve but it looks like a bear to get to with the supercharger installed. I haven’t seen any other issues however that make me think there’s anything wrong with the PCV at 74k miles.

PCV...it is a PITA with the boost maker...I had to MacGuyver some hose and some flexible extensions to unthread, rethread on, and tighten...it made me so mad doing it but I'm glad I got it done! I lost some bits and my hands are not for surgery purposes...but I got it done. The catch can is a other indicator on how it's breathing...yours does work, or used to, so it will 99% be your PCV. :anonymous:

Some fool over-torqued the top 2 bolts on the trans bell-housing to engine. But that would be me!
A one day job turned into 3. Dog at vet, shopping, yardwork etc. Why do these things get in the way of wrenching?
