Glad they're handling it appropriately. This just made.me think that maybe I will purchase a few bottles of Boostane specifically for an accident like this

Full disclosure...I still had the knocking sound when I got it back from SCOL...and, it was the belt length. While I had tried different belts to see if it was that specific Gates belt, they were the same length. I got a longer belt and now, no knocking, squeals like crazy, but no knocking...so yeah, yay me! So I guess it was bouncing off the tensioner stop at it's max setting, cause that belt was too tight. It is as you said, self-inflicted, like most of my issues. I need to slap that tensioner I got from ViktorG on and see if that helps with the squealing, before I do something drastic like install a larger crank pulley :D

I’m still rocking the originally supplied black gates belt K081177 with the 77.5 pulley. No squealing or issues yet, 25k on it. Occasionally if I am WOT and let off abruptly I may get a little squeal at that point. I have the green one in the truck as a replacement but I’m starting to think I should just order another black one for when this one is shot. I realize with your spacers installed you had to go longer however. That is interesting as far as your real issue being the tensioner. The noise sure did line up perfectly in frequency to the belt RPM and length.

New Jersey is the last state in the union that won’t let you do it. Oregon just started letting you a few years ago. It’s a union thing is what I’ve been told but I’ve never investigated.

I don’t live in NJ but am paranoid about some idiot filling up my truck with regular. I usually fill mine up when dropping it off for any service to minimize the risk.
I bought these red stickers. Maybe the red might work better than the white labels?

36k miles on my Harrop provided belt and 77.5 pulley. No issues.

It's such a pain in the ass! I hate waiting for someone to pump gas if I am in NJ. I always fill up before driving through that state. Going there tomorrow actually so thanks for the reminder!!!

Magnuson says don’t do that. Wawa did offer octane boost originally.

That wouldnt surprise me in the least.
Not a big fan of unions, they definitely were needed at one point and did a lot for the American worker though.
Texas being a right to work state we really dont have unions for the most part.
My biggest problem with them is meritless raises.
Just because you've worked somewhere a long time doesn't necessarily mean you deserve a raise. If you're not productive and aren't making a company money you dont deserve a raise.
I've seen to many Machinist that moved to Texas because they couldnt find a job in their union run shops.
And to be honest most of them weren't that good.
Unions kinda make it an us vs them mentality which can cause problems.
    End Rant........

    Interesting.

I can see raising the octane past 93 is bad juju

but a one off use - to get it to 91, seems OK.

    Prob for liability reasons.
You can run the low octane out if you stay out of boost. Should be fine with no boost and no towing ie low load

We always run octane booster when running in Mexico since the quality varies significantly. Definitely a liability thing from magnuson.

You'd think adding octane boost would be a benefit if you were running lower octane fuel.
I guess ya gotta pay to play and I'm fine with that.
If I weren't retired it would get kinda spendy driving back and forth to work.
Dont remember if high octane fuel was required when I had the TRD SuperCharger in my Tacoma but it probably was.

There’s no reason to not run octane boost. Octane is a good thing with boost.

The only issue I’ve seen reported with using octane booster like boostane on the regular is it causes orange deposits, I think manganese on spark plugs, and can be detrimental to O2 sensors and cats. That’s probably using every tank though and mixing it at higher ratios.

I don’t think it’s really a union thing, although I suppose union leaders would support the law remaining in place. It’s an old law on NJ books. They also have pretty decent gas prices, 6% lower than the national average. PA on the other hand has one of the highest gas taxes. I’d still rather pay it and pump my own though!

Oregon started allowing you to pump your own gas in certain areas about 7-8 years ago, but in a lot of the small communities, they still had to pump your your gas. In 2023 they changed the law throughout the state, I still see stations in some areas where they come up and pump regardless. I live in California but visit Oregon a few times a year to see friends and I have never had any problem. Just tell them I want premium and since I'm in the car, I can see them choose 91 when they activate the pump.

I think they started this law back in the 50's claiming it created more jobs and some BS about fire safety. I think it was primarily to create or retain more skillless jobs.

We pay around 2.45 to 2.65 a gallon in and around Houston.
Hard to believe I remember gas being 36 cents back in the early 70's!!!

My wife and I will be in South Jersey on Friday,(Sicklerville), visiting her Dad. I do miss Wawa, but not someone pumping my gas for me. Freaked me out the first time I needed gas in Jersey. Dude walked up, and I was wondering WTF he was doing.

Yeah that would freak me out as well if I wasn't aware of the law.
The first thing that would pop into my head would be the homeless guy trying to wash my windshield at the light with a dirty rag and a spray bottle of ditch water and then demanding payment.
I finally resorted to turning on the wipers and hitting the washer fluid.
