Don't worry, there's a second rack that has lots of space, and a third rack I haven't built yet

I may have missed something, but I thought most 2nd Gen Tundras had 4.30 gears from the factory.

Forgive me if I lost the context of the thread.

They do, but he was replying to the owner of a Land Cruiser and I think that they come with a higher ratio (3.31 or something?), particularly with an 8 speed transmission.

@Jowett I called Sonnax and they cannot confirm fitment on that piston (P/N 57917E-19K) for the transmission case side. They said if I got them dimensions they could compare, but I’m thinking I’ll order both and if that Sonnax one doesn’t fit I can always put the new oem one in place.

Edit: They don’t sell anything for the transmission case side of things btw.

Interesting, thanks for the update. Now we know why it’s not included in their kit.

Further research shows the B1 accumulator in the main case is for the 4th - 5th shift. So problems, especially a harsh shift, will be related to it.

Well I don’t have hard shifts for 4th-5th. I wonder if replacing it with new will make it harsh?

From my limited dealings with automatics, a worn accumulator piston and/or bore can cause the piston to stick, which is what will lead to the harshness. It can also allow oil to leak around the piston, which bypasses the circuit, this can slow engagement and reduce clamp on the clutch pack.

To give a summary, ever since almost new, the truck never idle perfect, there's always surges, but bearable.

Fast forward to earlier this year, after changing the injectors to 750cc and running smaller pulley, the surge was unbearable, the short term fuel trim between bank 1 and bank 2 would oscillate insanely at idle, when coming to a stop the truck would sometimes stall, or the rev would bounce up and down.

I do have Stainless works long tube headers, so the primary o2 sensors are located at the collectors, after talking to few others include Keith @dirtydeeds , I learned that primary o2 sensors should sit at factory length, even if it's only mounted in the primary runners.

So after switching to SW650 injectors, and updated the exhaust, the truck finally idles smoothly both cold and hot, no oscillations between banks, no stalling.

Big thanks to @snivilous and @texoma for helping me to get the truck run right.

I’ll have both pistons in the next few weeks and hopefully be replacing with the Sonnax upgraded one.

I was about to say I'd just spray it with a gold cerakote and call it a day, worse case it just helps expand the lifespan of the blanket.

Haha paint will hide it until I hit a jump and it all blasts apart lol I was thinking probably not a bad idea to weld the new tower not only front side but also the backside since you can access the backside of the tower when the motors out. @snivilous
