General Supercharger Thread

I was curious as the AISIN WS fluid has a similar viscosity as Dex3, 7.3 vs 7.1 at 100deg C. AISIN being mostly synthetic and DEX conventional...does Dex have better bite on the clutches? Dex3 doesn't have a lot of the modifiers that most synthetics have.
Just thinking if one were to still want the WS fluid, AISIN 7.3, with a thicker viscosity than Toyota WS 5.4 viscosity.
As we know superchargers like to eat Transmissions.... when given a little bit more boost.

 

Another option is Amsoil. I’ve been running Amsoil Signature ATF (ATL) for 60k miles and the trans hasn’t died yet. The Amsoil has a higher viscosity than WS and synthetic with a 6.3 cSt at 100C.

 

That's what I used, 2 years ago, I did a partial with 6 quarts, just now they did the full drain when the TQ converter & filter was replaced. I have 4 more to top it up if need be (and over fill some)



I have been alittle preoccupied with weird limp mode & this....

 

I was running the Amsoil when my transmission roasted. Not that it means anything though, seeing as how I was tweaking the tune as much as I was.

Just ordered a new coupler from zzperformance for the 1900. I replaced it before in 2015. It's a rattling oh and my driver side cat is too. At least the converter is under warranty.

I would probably sound more akin to a mongoose being stuffed into a garbage disposal.

 

Had a sporadic miss in #7 so swapped the new plug & Denso coil to 1.

The orange tinge is from octane boost I used on CA. gas

Electrodes look a little worn.

 

That's the way they came, they have under 100 miles. I put them in after the L.A. Drive. There was still CA gas in the tank.

It's always hard to judge spark plugs but those look pretty nasty. In the email #1 looked pretty good but #7 definitely had the looks of misfiring

Ok. First pics didn’t look like the nub was there. But if that’s after a 100 miles that’s still looking pretty rough. These are mine at 75k.




With the issues you were having, I’d swap the plugs out. These may be fouled.

 

Trying to get the truck's new motor dialed in. It is being a dick.

 

Got some logs, had misses on cyl 1,remembered I put a crappy AutoZone accel pedal in. I have had weird idle in neutral & park, put the 143k oem in & the truck feels better & the surging idle is gone.

Pulled the plug form 1 (that was in 7) it looks better, I cleaned it & put it back. No misfire, got to 9.8LBS.

I finally used the hose protection that came with the 300.00 TRD hose kit.

 

2 drives, no limp, no codes. It feels good, I think it needs to learn.

Also, for those of you that have done a tranny cooler (which I think is all of you ), does this list of parts in my cart appear to be complete for what I need to complete the install... and confirming there's nothing on the list that really isn't needed, correcct???

Also, it seems weird to me, but Toyota parts website is always strange in how it labels; like the T-stat is called the Oil Cooler Assembly w/T-stat. So, just confirming that's the "thermostat" that everyone purchases for these installs and not a 'complete' OE trans cooler (like I have on my '08), right???

Finally, should 12qts of fluid get me through this intall w/a drain n fill, plus have enough to complete another drain n fill down the road??
