Off the SC topic... but part of the BS that goes along with these trucks.
I'm in the process of fitting a full size spare int he stock location. My truck came from NJ back in the day, so a bit rusty in certain spots... aka the spare tire carrier/hoist. I ordered one from a wrecked 2018 with 20k miles so have one in good shape to install. Has anyone here replaced this hoist? Quick crawl under and it looks like a painful removal with rusted bolts given the tight clearances between the crossmember and bed of the truck. Planning to use an oscillating tool to cut the bolts as close as possible to the hoist and then drill them out. Need to sawzall the rivets on the spare tire guides to fit the larger wheel diameter too but not as worried about that.

New ones are now orange. I bought from the dealer and when I went to change my oil the other day, I noticed it.

Blah blah blah. Sometimes I wish I would have bought the SM or the PT LSD during BF deals. Maybe this year I will.

One reason I didn't buy it on BF deals was that it's hard to find a reputable shop here. Most are shady tree mechanics. I would do it myself since I won't be changing out gears so apparently all I need to do is preload and backlash. But I would have to research to see how to do it right.

From swapping LSD’s in other cars if you’re reusing everything 9/10 it’ll be in spec. Just need to get a baseline before you take it apart then put it together with new parts and see if anything changed.

So more race shenanigans today. Contenders are
    1-2024 Ford F150 5.0
    2-2024 Dodge 3.0TT
    3-Mine 2020 Tundra SC

First race was the Ford against the Dodge. I would have thought the Dodge would do better. NOPE. The Ford pulled and pulled on it.
Second was Mine vs Ford. I originally thought it was going to be a close race. Once again, NOPE. From a stop, the Ford pulled about 1 car ahead and after I could finally get all into it, it's was over. Pulled on him hard. Then we rolled at 20mph. I had it in S1 to hold 1st gear. 3 beeps and we hit it. I jumped in front but then traction control kicked in and he caught up but as soon as the traction controlled turned off, it was over once again. I pulled like 3+ trucks on him.
I had two/haul mode on and pressed the traction control button 3 times to turn everything off.

Still need to do a retune since I could see smoke coming out my exhaust. Running rich as hell.

If I did it, I would just swap the carrier out. My truck has 55k right now so no need to replace bearings.

I wouldn't trust myself to put it in s1 or s2 and go at it, I'd probably smoke my transmission. Most just put it in s4 and go(put it in 4wd if ya got it). Its been proven the transmission can shift faster than you can in auto.

Don't forget, you can throw a FP700 package on an XLT Ford F-150 and have 12.4 sec 1/4 out of the box for under $70k... just add the $12k package to any 'base' trim build
So, a set of cheater slicks (still w/ no tune) would net you high 11s :burnrubber:

For sure. I'll install myself, too, as I'm not in need of gears. Easier then one thinks!

They're just that much lighter in weight; it really makes a difference in acceleration... remove some seats and it stays getting closer but who does that in the street?

I would love to help people do work on their tunrdas. I'm hoping to relocate and set up a shop back towards the OR/WA border, maybe in order to get things going. Although I dislike both states...

To do the carrier, you need a handful of special tools, a press, and two 4x4 blocks. When you’re ready, you can message me and I’ll give you my number in case you run into anything you don’t quite understand. I would def suggest new carrier bearings over 50k miles, and require new carrier bearings over 100k miles. You’ll want shims as well. Shimming is a game of thousandths. I’ve gotten away with swapping shims side to side, but it doesn’t always work, so be prepared.

Forgive me, but if you're pulling the diff/carrier anyway, why not just replace the carrier bearings regardless of miles for good practice? Seems like cheap insurance imo...

I don't shift it myself, hell no, I tried it before without the SC and it's not responsive. What I do it put it in S1 to hold the gear on a rolling start. Then as soon as I hit the gas, I slap the shift over to it's normal position and let the trans shift itself.

I just figured at 50k the bearing are still good. But considering that you have to remove them and reinstall them on the new carrier, I think it's better to put new ones on, now that I think about it.

If you reuse the original bearings you can often get away with using the original shims as well. Instead of setting tolerances from scratch you can sometimes get away with simply verifying them. Also, those bearings aren’t cheap.

When I had my auburn installed around 70 or 80k miles, the bearings still looked new. We reused them along with the original shims and the pattern was spot on. At 220k miles on that setup with lots of hauling and towing. I’m not saying you should absolutely reuse the bearings, but sometimes it works just fine.

My engine and trans should last very long. I probably do 1-2 WOT a month. Sometimes not even 1 a month. This month I am at 4 wot runs. 2 yesterday and 2 today for some data log runs.
