The trans thermostat I got is 160, so I guess I'll see what that gets me overall, I can buy a different element if I need to change the temp. Did you have issues at the lower temp?

No, I didn't and it was winter when I was testing the 103TB. I was going off of, I believe, that Toyota WS is at optimal viscosity at 190 and for longevity. I would have to look for the reference.

Whatever this forum told me to do
ditto - i have yet to strike oil in my catch can.

it's tinted brown in there tho....does that count?

I think it's the Houston climate.

I have the older version of the radium

How do you know if it’s working?

Help a brother out. Happy to see if it makes a difference. Would like to get some benefit from the catch can given the money spent.

What MDL posted. That's my post about the same issue, no oil. Now that I removed all that garbage it works.

Oil cooler lines deleted and coolant lines adjusted...thinking about taking that water-cross over pipe off and drilling/tapping that unused boss for my electric fan thermo switch. @Mdl , where did you mount your coolant temp sensor?

Fancy catch cans are a waste of money. The $20 Amazon ones work great and have the same quality. And this is speaking as someone with a Radium on the Tundra.

Upper rad hose tapped to fit the 195 deg BMW thermostat. The 195 works great with the stock engine thermo. No short cycling of the e-fan. The cross over seems like a decent location. I got new silicone hoses and was thinking about a new spot.

Thank you sir, I got a painless wiring switch that's on at 195, off at 185. I've already got the coolant drained, so I'm going to take off the crossover pipe and see if it's thick enough.

Thanks! I'm going to go the Amazon route for one.

Any good mounting locations? I saw on the J&L site they use a mount just to the right of the radiator.

Looks promising, this is drilled with the bit that came with the 3/8 npt tap. I will try tapping it later tonight.

Not particularly, and depending on the blower, intake, and coolant reservoir there's spots that work better on some trucks than others.

This spot was a little funky but ultimately in a spot not used for anything and gave good access to unscrew the can and was a bracket going to some unused tapped holes on the driver's valve cover.

    upload_2024-7-26_10-2-21-1.jpg

Pro speed "mounts" theirs off the passenger side top of the blower which actually isn't a bad spot. Where Radium mounts theirs next to the radiator is good but can be a bit tricky to unscrew. IMO the radium mounting bracket is the ONLY reason to get their catch can, and even then I think their bracket needs to be modified to actually be worthwhile. I'll make anyone a bracket to help them avoid the cost of the radium if that's what pushes someone to their can.

I'd be down for buying a bracket if you have the time. I'm fine placing it wherever the hive-mind thinks is best for a Whipple setup.

If you can make a drawing with some dimensions I can cut it on the plasma table and send it over for cheap. Will certainly beat the effort and looks of using an angle grinder to make something!

I got a solid 3 threads out of the crossover pipe, sensor mounts solid and clears the coolant hose. Bottom of sensor is flush with the pipe housing.

I'm switching over to an electric fan, this is the thermo switch that turns the fan on at 195 and off at 185. I just got the fan mounted, need to slap a plug on it and mount the radiator back in the truck. This fan looks so small compared to the stock clutch fan.

I was able to fit a Lincoln fan in the shroud. It cleared the back of the radiator by an inch. I still have about 1.5 inch opening around the shroud. I planned to block it off but never did. Still pulls lots of air and cooling in heavy traffic and 90 deg out.
A 1999-2001 jeep grand Cherokee efan from the 4.7 pulls some high cfm's too. I bought 2 spare electric motors for the Lincoln fan. Just replaced it this summer, not bad for a 30 year old fan.
    Good luck!
