Whatever this forum told me to do
I've given boring dissertations on this topic. here's another.

I drive mine daily. ~58 miles per day. mostly hwy.

there are days that I never reach positive manifold air pressure.

most days, I never get past 3psi. on-ramps, overpasses, etc.

but....you have the sophomoric ability to squish the pedal and GOOOOO*.

MPG is fundamentally not affected, unless you squish the skinny pedal.

    I avg 17mpg.
That # is not a normal universal avg...it's probably 1 Std Dev to the right. My driving style is....let's say....boring.

    * one should at LEAST have a TRD dual setup to enjoy the noise (I do). I'm contemplating a Dirty Deeds 10".

go get a S/C...you ain't livin' right till you do.

I would think when not mashing it, a SC’d truck would be a bit more efficient than stock, all other things being equal. But of course it would be hard to control oneself.

Whatever this forum told me to do
    agreed.

in my experience - I get the same mileage as when I was N/A, albeit I use high-octane now.

so, dollar per mile is up. MPG is not.

ex: my SG3 is dead on accurate, for MPG, when I drive "normal".
If I get into PE a lot, I guess I leave the normal calculation map & the SG3 becomes inaccurate to the degree that I was "spirited".

    another factor:
I use cruise control a LOT. going up an overpass is comical - the Truck has no idea it has a S/C. and it accelerates aggressively. you can literally feel the truck overcompensating & letting off & doing it again. I'm used to it. it wrecks MPG.

I don't daily mine anymore, but since it's been supercharged, it's my wife's daily. Starts, runs, and drives just like stock. I have a velcro flap that covers the AFR gauge because "it flashes too much"

It's clear how Toyota deemed a stage 1 SC reliable enough to sell OEM on these trucks.

Agree. My wife drives my truck quite a bit and I never worry about it giving her issues. Haven’t had to cover the afr and boost gauges…yet

When the wife drives..." you don't need all these flashy gauges".

my answer - "correct. I don't need them. I WANT them"

    here endith the lesson.

How many of you have upgraded your torque converter after installing a super charger of any sort?

I was talking to a Toyota rep yesterday and he told me that he has had a client to eat torque converters and in full disclosure his driving style is highly aggressive.
But still it got me to thinking whether or not I needed to get ahead and start looking for one?

What torque converter would be better suited for this truck ?

If I were to mess with the converter, I would also replace the whole transmission & TC with a BUILT one.

The main drawback is going to be gas and you'll probably want to change oil at 5K or even at 3K. You may need to increase the intervals of other maintenance items as well but the blower itself is good on oil for 100K.

You'll need to run higher octane gas which is more expensive.

Even though the bypass is pretty good and only takes about 1 HP to spin unloaded (out of boost) you wont stay out of boost.

A couple of hard pulls and you can watch the gauge delete gas.

Don't go pulley crazy and you'll be fine with a good tune. Skip the canned tune and get a custom tune.

I installed the IPT valve body in 2021 and I drive it hard, love to hear this engine sing and not worried about gas mileage. Granted I don't drive much every day...maybe 10-15 miles, but they are hard and fast miles every time, road trips, etc. are the same...I'm always passing and no one is ever going fast enough for me to stay behind. One thing I took away from IPT's Youtube videos, comments, and Facebook posts is if you're not looking to make 1000+ HP, the valve body will be enough to keep you from torching your convertor and destroying your clutch discs.

of course I’m not. I only supercharged my truck to give it more air so it can breathe better.
As a law abiding citizen I observe all DOT / DMV and local motor vehicle operators guidelines.

I am working the number up but I don’t see any drawbacks and as far as mph in the lowest setting it appears to be better mpg than stock.

It likely wont. That is what Prospeed used on their turbo build. In the video they said it couldn't hold 750 after two rebuilds.

I'm curious if their testing included brake boosting. That's torture on any slush box.

I use scangauge 3 and hand calculate miles traveled(trip computer) by gallons used. If you are running different tires it will be off.
