With the full time AWD Land Cruiser case, 2H = AWD, 4H = locks the center diff, and 4L is locked 4L. The Sequoia case really is a better choice, but more involved.

Are you running this set up Baxter+oil thermostat? Wonder if the recommended filters will be too big when running plates.

I plan to run their remote mount, which is as low as the stock filter housing, then lines from that to a remote mount on the frame rail that a screw-on filter would mount to. I will install the thermostat sandwich plate on that remote mount and the filter will screw on to it. Then there will be lines to/from the sandwich plate and a heat exchanger.

You're not able to select between the center diff being locked and unlocked in 4L? Interesting, and surprising.

    Nice!
Wonder if I could squeeze a heat exchanger on driver side like the trans cooler. I had a truck back into me where I took all the plastic crap off the front grill.

Gotchya. Looks like of the recommended filters the WIX is the longer one vs the Mobile. Will have to research equivalent filters to see if there is anything that can fit with a plate.

When using the Tundra 4WD ECU and no center diff lock switch, yes. It’s a very simple swap that way… the only part required is the Land Cruiser T-case. No ECU swap, no wiring, no driveshaft changes. Two parts from the Tundra T-case need to be swapped... The output flange for the rear driveshaft, and the upper portion of the Tundra T-case actuator, are both swapped onto the Land Cruiser T-case. The shift to 4x4 in the Tundra is the same as the shift to center diff lock in the Land Cruiser, the distance the fork moves is different, which is why the upper Tundra actuator parts must be swapped. The ADD shift fork on the front diff is locked in place, but the actuator is allowed to operate so the signal keeps the 4WD ECU happy.

Ahhh, this is all new information to me! I used the Sequoia T-case, ECU and cluster so that I'd have the diff lock indicator. The T-case itself was literally plug and play, the electronics in the cab were a bit more trial and error but functions like it was factory.

I believe Brian did the swap first with the land cruiser transfer case where your in awd in 2. Viktor wanted 2wd with the option of awd.

Yes, the LC case swap was first back in 2009… a super clean low mile LC case popped up on eBay for $1k, and away we did go! Viktor certainly picked it up ran much further with it by figuring out the Sequoia swap details.

No not based on the document link it doesn’t look like, only temp controlled. However there is an aftermarket thermostat that opens at 160*. This seems to be an alternative to the higher pressure radiator cap.
    https://www.mishimoto.com/toyota-tundra-2007-low-temp-thermostat.html

For oil cooling I think the break out cooler is the only upgrade if you have the oil cooler shown in the document.

Hopefully someone more knowledgeable than me can come and provide the correct information.

The pancake/donut cooler usually makes adding an additional cooler easy.

Is it safe to assume a transfer case from a LX570 would bolt right up with the same mods to work on a 2021 tundra with zero electronics?

Unfortunately, no. The swap only works up until 2013, after that, Toyota moved to Borg Warner transfer case. Eventually, someone will tackle the 2.5 generation swap.

The LX570 case is the same as the LC.

    RE: Exhausts.

So after rewatching the video I think the the guy in the "Dual Exhausts loose power" (argues that Y Pipes are better) video above is wrong, at least partially.

It is easier to see and understand the benefits of X pipes after watching these two short videos

    X Pipe demo:
    https://youtu.be/PJW3Wkzrk7I?si=ycdFXW6W8Z-HjF9N

X Pipe and H Pipe simulation:
    https://youtu.be/2crCWF5cmLk?si=6Ti_qnwP3h5RJywB

So what I think the guy is missing is the negative pressure wave (meant reflected wave here). In a Y pipe the waves would cancel with the outbound waves so you loose the scavenging effect.

In the X pipe demo the effect would work if the air flowed the other way as well.

In the simulation video you see the benefit is a mix of crossover and alternating pulses providing a scavenging effect. The degree of crossover seems to make a difference in how much turbulence is created so not all X pipes are created equal.

As far headers go I don't think folks are leaving much HP/TQ on the table without them but the benefit is less restriction when evacuating exhaust. Seems like this also can help keeping temps down.

An interesting rule of thumb I picked up in a Holdener video.

Divide your Goal HP by the engine original HP to get the theoretical required pressure ratio to achieve the horsepower goal.

    650/381 = 1.7 pressure ratio.

It works out for the Maggie 2650 quoted crank HP anyway. 563/381 = 1.47 which is what it does at the base 7psi at sea level. The actual HP is of course more nuanced than that, but it’s fun anyway. We know longtubes for instance will drop boost pressure but make more power.

So basically the 4WD ecu speaks BW in the 2.5, not Aisin or is it more than that? LX570 transfer case, 4WD ecu and center diff lock switch and AWD in the 2.5? I'm sure that's way simplified but sounds doable.

My brief research into this was years ago… I just ran a quick search and as with the first time, more questions were created than answered. If I were to go down the AWD path with a 2014, looking for an AWD version of the BW case would probably top the list. If that dead ends, then maybe look 2014+ Sequoia models, their ECUs, harnesses, etc. Grab a subscription to TIS and start comparing. I’ll try to dig around a little as time permits.

From my understanding, and I may be mistaken, the Sequoia maintained the Aisin TC up until the recent full redesign, it never had an AWD BW TC. Viktor did look further into the 14+ aspect and said that there were all sorts of hurdles. CANBUS communications, traction control communication faults. ECUs that needed to talk to each other and not being able to. As he has said, it's not impossible with enough time, motivation and money, but no one has done it to date.
