Is their a SC setup / HP threshold that kills your cats? (Besides the long tube setup)

I’m on 34s, stock gears, and a lot of extra weight on the truck like a bed cap and steel bumper and I’m in the neighborhood of 4.5s to 60 on the best of days. That’s with just a step down from the stock Harrop pulley, 650 injectors, stock TRD dual exhaust, stock manifolds and cats and a tune. I’d guess around 600 crank hp. Pretty bare bones IMO. Sniv is a bit quicker with his smaller pulley, bigger injectors, gears, and what I’m assuming is probably a little less weight on 35s. I think sub 4s is out of reach without putting on stock tires and removing all the weight, along with probably a step smaller pulley.

Let’s not forget all the posted testing acceleration numbers on those trucks are usually with the lightest available factory optioned tire in their size. Then the benefit of being an off the showroom floor vehicle not filled with the owners crap accrued over 5 years. 100 more hp and more gears in the transmission for both the Raptor R and the TRX obviously is the big factor here too, but a SC tundra is a bargain compared to those for 85% of the acceleration performance.

Glad to hear it worked out mostly as expected. Matt Smith wouldn’t steer us wrong! It sounds overall more hassle free and less slapped together than the alternative methods.

Yes, usually any forced induction setup will kill stock cats. It either burns them up with the excess fuel in the exhaust or the volume of gas being pushed through them literally blows the element apart. Some people have luck with the more expensive high-flow cats and some don't.

Ah I thought this issue was only prevalent for the long tube headers crowd.

Anyone ever have an issue with aftermarket wiring interfere with hpt writing to the ECM? I have my AEM tapped in OBD for the tach reading for logging. Heard GM has issues just wondering if Toyota also.

Yes we had this issue with my old man’s rig. No issues data logging but it wouldn’t load through the pass through adapter. So he unplugged it then loaded the tune and all worked fine. Sorry this was an issue with the AEM obd 2 adapter.

Hopefully nothing serious. I have an aem x plugged into the obd 2 as a pass thru and haven't had an issue uploading tunes via hpt

Yea I’ve heard this also from my buddy with a Tacoma and same gauge. So not sure why some work or not we will see how mine does when the time comes. I may just pull it during the loading

Unfortunately it's not a pass through. 2015 aem failsafe that uses obd wire tap for tach. Read that wiring mods and aftermarket radios can affect tune writing. Just never read about happening to Toyota.

My remote start has a OBD2 passthrough that lets me tune but had to come out to program keys at Toyota. (when I first got the Tree it only had the valet key)

Has anyone ever had success handshaking a different ecu using the obd pin out method, pin 4 and 13? May have bricked mine? I have a spare ecm from a 2008, mine 2007, same model and pkg that has the TRD SC tune. I tried before but waited 20 min vs 30.
I chased fuses and wiring for ecm, all intact. Waiting to hear from HPT...

After reading many posts on HPT forum it seems any amperage draw or obd wiring issues can cause a ecm to brick. Although GM seemed to have the most issues even aftermarket radio's, car alarms can cause it to brick. Low battery voltage is always the main concern but just wanted to put this out there. Of course GM is more prevalent on HPT than Tundra.

I have, we also have a master Toyota tech here that has also used that process. When it didn't work on my truck i replaced the ECM, they are just plug in and go, no programing needed.

Compare your boost psi and see if there is a loss. If I recall you should not lose low end torque and may increase a little further up on the rpm's. The stock pipe size should maintain velocity and not be affected by the 2nd cat.

Hot as hell here today and not long of a drive. Afr dropped a point richer. Sounds very rowdy when on it. Idle revving is also very different much smoother. Going for a longer coffee run in the am and will report more findings

Been wanting to do this one day mainly for sound. I think the richer AFR is interesting, what would explain that? I would have thought there would be higher flow and therefore be leaner, but must be thinking about it wrong. Looking forward to hearing more about it.

I was curious about this also. I noticed a difference when I had the muffler delete same afr. Then when I added the carvens it bumped up a little leaner but more boost. Now here less boost (higher flow I imagine) then back to richer. The sound is a great it’s a good between from mufflers and no mufflers. I may pull the negative cable and let the computer reset let it sort this new thing out and see.

I had my secondary cats removed for a while. At idle and cruise its only a very mild difference. At wot it sounds mean! You will be happy i guarantee it! Edit: i didnt realize you already removed them. But i loved how it sounded without them. It might scare you the first time it hits the rev limiter because it makes a pretty damn loud pop!

Morning coffee run findings. Confirmed afr is much tighter meaning less back and forth/ tighter spread at idle and driving. .2lbs less boost so now spiking at 9psi before settling down to 8.0-8.1.

Sounds awesome while on it. It's a good in between from the muffler delete being too loud to adding mufflers being too quiet.

It's too hot now. I cut a 5.1s the other day in the 90 degree weather and it felt noticeably slower. I was getting the same 4.6-4.7s to 60 times (4.5s with 1ft rollout) on my 35x12.5s and lots of heavy stuff in the truck (audio equipment, tools, etc). When it gets cool this fall i was thinking of grabbing the stock small wheels off one of our plow trucks and see what it can do. I believe they are only 265/65's so they must be light. Even just a tenth or two quicker would be nice!

It's kind of wild the level of inconsistency in power production, or maybe I just pay attention. I usually comment to my wife when the truck does something that seems especially spicy, like going to sling shot pass someone and for whatever reason you can tell it's making a lot of power. And other times you punch it and it's a bit lethargic about accelerating. Course there's a lot of variables, rpm, gear changes, temperature, etc. Not like there's anything wrong with the truck.

Agreed. Sometimes i'm like whoa that was fun, others i'm like did the belt pop off the blower wtf. But i actually noticed that even when it was not supercharged. Fall and winter it felt pretty quick. Summer felt like a honda. I'd like to grab a pulley from ya and do some fuel upgrades soon @snivilous and see what kind of improvements i can make.

    Too many mods to come
Couldn't agree more on how it feels on any given day. These seem especially sensitive to temps etc than many other vehicles I've owned.
