Never thought to ask about it for the Tundra s/c, but on the Tacoma there's a brass restrictor jet you can remove from the bypass valve that when done you can actually feel the improvement in throttle response.

I'm guessing that's not a thing on the tundra?

Yep, mine has one. There are no markings on it. A 0.036in drill bit will fit through it with some play, but a 0.037in will not.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯Dunno, I haven't plans to use the truck in the next day or so....but I haven't reinstalled it yet either.
I'm not coming up with any hypotheses for it's function, why the hole might be the size it is.

You're more motivated than me, I left everything sitting on the blower. I didn't even close the hood all the way.

In my defense it is 110 in my garage.

Also, my upstairs AC is not cooling so I'm sleeping on the couch downstairs oh & my wife is stuck in New Orleans because she got covid and can't fly.

Looking at the pictures in the first post, it looks like there are two hoses on the Harrop bypass and it looks similar to the Maggie one; I can't see the bypass on the picture of the Whipple.

From page 1 of the Tacoma Magnuson Tips and Trucks page https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/trd-magnuson-4-0-supercharger-tips-tricks-and-mods.518932/

    Restrictor jet mod:

A now well known (and free) mod which involves removing hose from factory bypass valve in the rear of the supercharger to a port in the rear of supercharger itself. There is a small brass colored restrictor jet either stuck on the bypass valve vacuum port, or gets sucked into the hose. Remove it for better overall vacuum at idle and cruising, better bypass valve functionality (now moves as quick as the throttle body can) and better boost consistency. Added bonus is you gain back boost you should have with the pulley in place. Tested and run by yours truly, no problems.

Post showing restrictor jet stuck in hose:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/trd-supercharger.4313/page-230#post-16411228

    Posts showing restrictor jet removed:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/trd-supercharger.4313/page-226#post-16409460

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/trd-supercharger.4313/page-226#post-16410123

The factory hose from bypass valve to supercharger leaks due to being oversized. It is advisable to either replace it with a smaller ID hose or to clamp it.

Hmmm, I wonder if the jet is intended to cause the bypass to close more "progressively".

My hose pulled off the blower port rather easily, however I had to cut it from the bypass. I was first going to try it with the hose reversed and the freshly cut end stuck on the blower port. I'll probably dig out a clamp for it later though.

I removed it on the Tacoma before a long road trip, and noticed a big jump on the top end when passing those slow cars on back country "highways"

It's a pia on the Tacoma cause it's at the rear underside of the s/c. Sounds like everyone should be doing it on the Tundra with how easy it is to get to

Now I'm wondering if there was one on the blower bypass for the 5VZ engine. Bet there was. But no one ever found a reason to remove the hose. Why would you ever think there was something in there?

I did this back in the day to my Tacoma...great for power, not so great for cruising. Caused surging during transitions between vacuum and boost, and it will increase your IAT. If you do it, do some logging to see what effect it has on your AFR and IATs.

You made me look at that Harrop pic on the first page. Mine only has one hose on the left port going to the blower. I don’t have a hose installed on the front facing port. I don’t think there is supposed to be a hose on there… what about you other guys with the Harrop?

I'm sure that I do, but do any of you know if I will need to get more credits from HP on my new ECM? Since they aren't programed by Toyota with the vin, I'm not sure how HP can verify what ECM you are flashing.

Ahh, maybe it's there to provide a dampening effect then, that might explain the vac/boost transitional surging. I could see where it could alter the AFRs, but not the IATs, at least at the stock MAF location.

If you contact HPtuners and tell them you bricked the ECU they may not make you pay for more credits in order to flash your replacement ECU, you may just have to provide the new ECU ID number or something. If by chance you got a replacement ECU with the same ID/calibration number then maybe it will work without doing anything?

Had a brain fart, was thinking about post-charge temps like with the Harrop.
