Who's doing your tuning again? PS tuned mine and I'm curious if I can provide logs with the timing tables etc to one of you guys on here to see how they look. Should have smaller pulley and exhaust done next month.

Based on my experience (5 r&rs including a final 240 miles from home that cost me 525 to have done) Use submersible fuel rated hose, make the hose between the pump & basket the length between the top & bottom so it has nowhere to go if it slips & use fuel hose clamps.

This final time at least has a warranty but as it was done professionally & has not failed in almost 500 miles (most previously was 240) I'd say this is the way.

    lol

Do you know how the whole OTT thing works? Maybe that's a better question for @mZiggy . Because OTT doesn't have their own software, but they seem to have this "tuner network", so what exactly is the point of being in their network if you don't get proprietary software? Does OTT give each representative a manual of "tune the truck this way" so the end result is consistent and they're not supposed to deviate from that? What makes you part of the OTT network and what is the benefit and constraints?

I believe mziggy is a Yotawerx tuner which is a different company that uses VFtuner. I could be wrong about this, but my understanding of the OTT network is just that the country is divided into territories for each tuner that has agreed to be part of the OTT network in order to handle the customer base in each region. OTT essentially funnels the tuning work out to these tuners in different regions. I think OTT uses HPtuners. I would venture to guess that each tuner has their own way of doing things so your results may vary from tuner to tuner even within the network. Perhaps there is some basic ground rules established by OTT that each tuner must follow in regards to how they tune however. Surely there is an OTT tuner on this forum who could give more details but I can’t call any by name.

Aside the affiliates they will work with you directly. They ship you the OBD interface the customer provides the laptop and will have to download the software.

I think @Boltripper is the business operator

OTT is two main tuners. They have base tunes etc and then have middle men in different ares that deliver the tunes. They use HP tuners. So you find your local rep. They can either load in tunes, i.e. throttle response, trans stuff. Or in our case, schedule an appointment they data log and remote tune live.

What does the middle man actually do then? They're not doing the tuning, just delivering you the tune? So what is their role, communicate with you so you aren't communicating directly with the guy building the tune? Does the middle man actually know anything about tuning?

And I'm not trying to be bashing on these middle man guys, I've just never understood the dynamic going on. What is the advantage to one of these services versus like Prospeed where Chris sends you the tune directly, and you are talking and can call up the guy actually changing the numbers.

I've only worked directly with Justin, who is an actual OTT employee and develops tunes with them. He is @JustDSM on TacomaWorld and has been VERY active in the Supercharger thread over there as long as I've been a member, so like 7+ years.

I paid for their Custom Tune package, which they build from the ground up based on your vehicle. We were on week three of remote tuning when my truck got hit. I was basically the "remote tuner". They can also offer you discounts on HPTuners credits, and now have their "own" HPTuners branded dongle.

I think the advantage of using one of their remote guys, is that you don't have to buy the MPVIwhatever dongle. The credits and the tunes are their baked Tundra/Tacoma tunes. And they just send off any revisions that need to be done. So if you never plan on messing with tune parameters, or are not tech savvy, cheaper to just use their remote tuner.

This is the route I took with Prospeed after the issues with a local guy. I became the remote tuner and worked directly with Chris @ PS. Knowledgeable guy but hard to pin him down as he's so busy.

Edit: My only complaint with PS is that they won't mess with any transmission/torque management stuff.

DAP didn’t touch mine either in these regards. I didn’t realize it until @snivilous looked at the tune and mentioned it. Maybe it’s better safe than sorry for those things.

In the Tacoma's, there's a 4th to 5th gear shift change lag that they tuned out. It definitely is recommended and makes a noticeable difference in driving

It makes a huge difference, I was ready to pull the valvebody off the truck until snivilous helped me out, no change in 0-60 but now it drives like it should.

On a side note, I'm getting ready to do the full forged bottom end, but locally, what else should I do at the same time?

This is fairly accurate, other than the networks don't give tune access to the networked tuners.

They reflash pre-made calibrations on our behalf (referring to our respective networks, as YotaWerx is in no way affiliated with OTT).

In specific scenarios (and I can't really speak for OTT beyond assumptions because of lack of affiliation but I have to assume they do the same things to protect proprietary info/intellectual property), networked tuners may act as a middle man (take log, send to tuner, receive revision, etc), but as a general rule they are flashing pre-made calibrations for the vast majority of customers/scenarios, and for the vast majority of customers, this is the best approach as most don't need or want more than that. So the model works well for a tune that has been tested and developed when tested across a multitude of climates/elevations/conditions like YotaWerx does.

As popular as this thread here may seem, with however many people involved in helping each other out with mods and chasing down increased power and efficiency, it's a drop in the bucket in terms of numbers represented here compared against the multitudes of people out there who just want to not modify anything hardware related (beyond installing the supercharger itself) and then get a plug and play, tried and tested tune and call it good, knowing they can drive it with confidence, without worry, as if it were the Maggy calibration itself for instance.

This is a perfect example of where the value of a network of partners comes forth, because they may not (can basically guarantee it, just about) be creating custom calibrations for you (you are [i.e. me, the tune dev for example, or one of our other YW developers]), but they still cover the bases that 95-99% of people will want. It's a different model from what people typically imagine when hearing about tuning, but to put it gently, that era of tuning is also somewhat outdated in the sense of custom, on site tuning being the only option and the only way forward.

This was generally accepted to be how things are done and as technology has advanced, that's no longer true and people can end up just as happy with what they need with a pre-made calibration based on thorough testing with the hardware/kit at hand, assuming it's kept that way and not modified significantly. That said, over the last couple decades, particularly as tools like the Accessport have become more prevalent, tuners have allowed this other method of thinking to continue to flourish because it still helps ensure a greater percentage of assumed dependency on tuners for a "custom" calibration.

And this gets into the question of: what is custom?

YotaWerx has a highly popular tune for the 3GTacoma with the MagSC TVS1900 for example. We'll provide you with a ready-to-go tune; flash it as-is and you'll have significantly improved performance and drivability, and any of our networked partners from Joe Schmo in Arkansas to Runnin4tacos in Denver or KRave in Calgary can flash it with confidence in the product, with no on-site customization needed for function on an otherwise unmodified supercharger install.

Is it less custom because it could be considered "canned"? Is it custom because of the time and resources that were invested to create it and test as much as it was?

OTT doesn't do anything different in this regard.

The next step comes from changing the existing calibration to suit the mods at hand, where the base calibration being sold otherwise won't function properly due to the modifications involved necessitating changes. And this isn't anything the networked tuners are doing. Again, to protect IP, at most they're datalogging and sending off to the developer to then receive the next revision.

Correct some middle men adjust certain things but the main tunes built by the source. Middle men deliver the tunes. When a custom tune is needed (for me for example) then yea it'll be live data log, send file to tuner, tuner adjusts resends back. Middle man loads and we do more logging.

Spent the morning cleaning up and finalizing a few things. I sealed the Prospeed box as best as possible and am now within 20-25 of ambient. Next to install the gauges.
