HPTuners is pretty expensive to get into, btw. I wasn't exactly aware when I first bought it.

    $3-400 for the hardware/software
$50 per credit to unlock vehicle. Tundra requires 2 credits for engine and 2 for transmission
$300 for tune file and remote tune tweaking

If you plan on doing more than you're tundra it's worth buying. But if you don't see yourself using beyond the tundra, cheaper to hook up with a regional HPTuners tuner

Whatever this forum told me to do
    for whatever it's worth...
This is more or less what I did.
D3 Performance used whatever gadget they had to do my tune.
I have no intention or compulsion to try & mess with my own tune.

speaking of canned tunes....once the fitkit came out for the '20's, D3 used the Mag/TRD tune as the base for my tune-and built it to my present spec.

I'm stupid & have a museum of useless tuning hardware (OV Tune, ECUTEK, HP Tune) etc.

Same, I have both an OVtune OBD2 module (if that’s the right term) for my previous truck and currently have the HPT MPVI2. Is that module from OVtune basically a useless brick if it’s not being used to actually flash an OVtune? Wondering if it has any other purpose or resale value.

If you have OVTune, I believe you can still pay a reduced fee to upgrade to VFTuner, unless you already have VF. Some people use the term interchangeably.

VFTuner is what we use (YotaWerx) for our stuff. :notsure:

It's not locked down though. You can use VF to flash any VF file.

I tried to use the OV dongle for Techstream. It said NO!

No kidding. Anyone want to buy my OVT/VFT hardware :D I also have a URD pulley that is a paper weight. Lots of injectors. Lots of intakes. I could nearly supercharge another engine for free at this point lol

Lots of reading here, copy and paste into google search: twincharging site:www.eng-tips.com

It is doable but tricky. @reywcms is right about the blower likely to be a constraint in a serial/inline system where the turbo feeds the blower. He is right about a single turbo offering the same benefit (twin scroll and/or variable geometry turbos) with less complexity. But what is the fun in that! With that said I wouldn't mess with it without a built engine and transmission improvements.

With the bypass valve open the blower wouldn't restrict anything though

This guy has a whole series on twincharging a truck granted he is using a procharger centrifugal supercharger and meth:

Well stock it's open at low throttle and high vacuum. But I'd imagine you could easily make it closed at low pressure and open at high pressure when the turbo comes online, so the blower would be for off the line and turbo for after that.

But that only seems worthwhile if you want to make more than 15psi on a built motor where the supercharger can't keep up. For boost less than that I don't see much reason a turbo, let alone twin charging, is better.

Not familiar with what is on the Maggie, on the Harrop my understanding is you can only delay when it closes which is triggered by referencing boost/vacuum.

I think I see where you are going with this thought, trigger vacuum (bypass state) at some crossover point, probably use a boost controller to do this. Interesting alternative to using a clutch for the supercharger.

Probably makes the most sense, max out the blower and use the turbo to compliment the weak points of the blower.

Also wondering if these motors can be pushed more if the ring gap/heat problem is "fixed". That seems to be the number one killer of these engines. Pre-ignition too

From what I gather after following along a while, It would appear to me the most likely failures are piston rings, transmission, and connecting rods.

Valve spring failure seems possible too but not sure if that’s from the increased power or the springs just generally failing on occasion even non S/C, especially running the engine at high RPM before it’s up to temp. I’ve read that’s a more common issue on the earlier 5.7s as well. Beyond those failure points I think they’re pretty stout with more power. I’m curious if anyone that’s been paying attention would agree with that, just noting my observations.

Got spark plugs today, 750 injectors come in Friday. I think all that's left is the s/c belt, some gold wrapping paper, and a smaller pulley :boink:@snivilous lol. With any luck I'll officially join the gang before end of the year!

I still got my cheap "Wendy's" wrap.

So the connecting rods seem to rob the high end RPM and performance (the rods add weight) by giving the low end more torque (up to 30% according to TEG) since they can handle more pressure. Seems like they are intended to be part of a whole system to include piston heads and other parts.

I just noticed the fog lamps were replaced with turbo inlets (was disappoint they weren't bellmouthed ....j/k the whole aperture is turbo inlet). Wish their were more pictures of the build. This video has the placard describing the build at around 27s.:

That thing can scoot! With a built motor, and a corporate budget, I too would build something like this! haha

Any of y’all have issues with vacuum leaks with the radium PCV catch can? I seem to be getting an intermittent p0171 now after I installed it.
