Looking at it, did you feel like just pulling up some slack and getting rid of the harness extension was not an option to get you going for now?

I didn't want to mess with it. I don't trust me that much.

I would rather replace the harness.

I would have done the work-around if I didn't have access to another vehicle.

I, unfortunately had to drive a cab chassis f550 once, CIA should adapt that as a torture method, forcing people drive empty cab chassis hd trucks on rough roads, with a full bladder......

what are people's thought on RIPP coil packs? been curious about it and the theory sounds somewhat sensible.

I know nothing about them personally, but I saw someone asked about them on the boosted Facebook page. David from Prospeed called them junk and said they’ve done 900+whp on the OEM ones and to stick with OEM. Called them snake oil.

People over on the Taco s/c thread seem to like the RIPP coil packs. I think they only just released for the 2nd Gen taco this year

Let me try this again…something went whacky when I tried to reply last time. Chris, I’m glad you’re here so I can adequately pester you. :p Can you clear up what the deal is with these harnesses? Are you guys seeing issues with these, or is it in our heads? Mat from VFtuner basically said that he has experienced issues with the harnesses several times. I get the P0101 code occasionally and did experience the fuel/power cut in the past. Now I’m wondering if the harness is related to the problem. I haven’t had the throttle body issue yet. If you are seeing issues with them popping up more regularly, is it possible for me to purchase an extra TB harness and a MAF/IAT harness to keep in the truck in case I have an issue far from home?

If you could shed some light on the issues and what you’re seeing I know several of us would appreciate it. This is an an opportunity to show these Magnuson boys what good customer service looks like, and keep the Harrop blowers in a positive light :D So far you’ve done well by @nobodyintexas which is nice to see!

Never heard of positive things from switching coil packs. Tons of issues OEM's always work better.

Absolutely, we have had few looms that were suspected to be causing issues and have sent out replacements. This has been less than 6 total from memory. The "failed" looms were returned to us initially and tested and found to have no resistance issues when being load tested and all terminals looked as good as the day they were made. The majority of the trucks with these issues have been tuned. This same loom is used our our VK56 and we've had no failures on that platform at all, I'm happy to provide spares at minimal cost to anyone that would like them but at this time I haven't seen enough of a pattern failure to say all the looms need replaced.

As for the MAF/IAT loom failures we've had one that I know and it was likely due to the way the harness was routed across the engine.

As far as I've seen, RIPP coils are generally considered to be snake oil and OE coils are hard to beat. In addition, Toyota coils are regarded as some of the best OE coils out there from a manufacturer as far I know.

I'd stick to OE coils and get colder plugs.

Thanks for the details, that helps clear things up as far as the vastness of the issues big time. It’s definitely odd that they tested OK when returned. I wonder what’s causing the issue. Electronics can be baffling.

Depending on cost I may be interested in purchasing some extra harnesses just in case, even given the slim chance of issues just because of how I use my truck. Would you mind letting me know what they would cost me? You can send me a PM as well if you prefer.

Whatever this forum told me to do

I'll add some color to my situation - in case anyone can surmise a better solution:

in the last 3 months, cruising @ my usual 60mph, I've been kicked off of cruise control with an error. cruise control error, brake control deactivated.

I thought nothing of it, because it reset after I cycled the engine. no engine codes.

it's been about a month since that last happened.

then Monday, while cruising @60mph flat hwy, the truck jumps-naked and lights up the dash. throttle position error, cruise deactivated, limp mode. I didn't hit a bump or have any other situation happen that could blatantly cause the error.

I had no throttle, so I puled off the hwy to reset my shit. scanguage threw P0121 and a gaggle of other codes - mostly emission based.

got it restarted - no dash lights. OK that was scary - but I thought it was a fluke.

got back on the hwy and traveled without cruise control for about 15 minutes. I avoided cruise control, thinking that was the issue.

This time coming off the hwy - foot off gas, truck is decelerating on it's own...BAM...dash lights up the same way.

no throttle - full limp mode. gaggle of lights and codes.

I pull over (idling thru the intersection with hazards on) into the Budweiser lot to do the reset dance. for some reason I could not read the actual codes in SGIII - just that there were 7 emission based "issues".

Now I'm Focked...because my next challenge is getting thru Washburn tunnel without shutting down & clogging the whole tunnel....it will not make it back out of the tunnel at idle - grade too steep.

so, pull over @ the donut shop to do the reset dance - this is the last safe stop before the tunnel. my truck is running fine......but, I figger if I reset all my shit one more time, I can make it thru the tunnel. (picture me white-knuckle, chanting every prayer & incantation to assist the truck)

see, my goal is to get it to the warehouse.....the 'hood around here is treacherous - at best. once inside the gates, the zombies can't reach you.

so..I reset and make it thru the tunnel & make it to my usual parking spot - no errors.

it sits where I last parked it.

Once I get the new harness- thanks again Chris - I'll cruise the park to make sure I'm kosher to drive again.

I'll take pictures before I change the harness & after. I will send Chris the pictures.

Sh!t. I may be having the same issues. Had the same error pop up a few weeks ago when I was d!cking around with the intake. Though it was primarily MAF and intake related. So far no errors since.

@Chris@Harrop What is the correct way to route these as you mentioned some issues are harness related. Thanks

I was hoping the cruise control error was caused by a bug hitting the sensor or whatever.

however - I now think it was related.

Cruise control is deactivated when there's a CEL or other errors present.

When I had my Twin Turbo 2017 Tacoma, I had no CC for quite some time while resolving my p0420/30 issues, which happened to be due to exhaust leaks, not the high flow cats lol

It was great, but eventually I just wanted a bigger truck and missed having a v8, so I let it go and got into my Fat Amy.

My Tacoma was a manual and I'd take the drive up into Cloudcroft, NM (primary climb is something like 4k ft over the course of a 30 min drive or so) in 5th gear at 2k rpm with cruise control on, just letting it recruit 1-3 psi as needed pretty much the whole way.

The low end torque came on smoothly and really was great. I'd love a well put together TT kit for the 5.7L lol
