The first time I supercharged a tundra Sparks Toyota did it. My truck was a flex fuel and they were the only ones supercharging the flex fuel back then. Magnuson claimed 50 more horsepower than the original TRD tune using a bully dog tuner and when I got the truck Dynode it idid 454 rear wheel horsepower which is right at the 550 crank hp power that Magnuson claimed. I had 2 Tundras with this set up and while others said they had issues I never had any issues with them and thought they were decent tunes as long as you ran them with Tow Haul on and traction control off, which I still do to this day. Later when HP tuner started offering a tune for the Tundras Magnuson switched to HP tuners I asked them why and if it was a different tune and they said no it was the exact same tune just that HP tuners is more widely known and used. Currently in my main two vehicles I have a Magnuson in my Sequoia and a Harrop in my Tundra. I don’t give a shit about how much horsepower they Dyno at, I want and have my vehicles tuned to have as much torque as I can possibly get as early in the RPM range as I can get it. That is usable power, I don’t give a shit about peak horsepower at 6000 RPM it means nothing to me. Both of these vehicles are within 10 hp of each other however because the smaller displacement of the Magnuson the torque and horsepower kick in way sooner in the power band than the Harrop I’ve never raced them side-by-side but I feel like the Sequoia is noticeably way faster, there is zero lag you punch it and it just goes.

Sequoia is a 2014 when I put the supercharger on there was no tune available for it so it had to be a custom tune. My Tundra is a 2009 even though it looks like a Gen 2.5, when I did my long travel I converted the body over and put the 2.5 glass on it. The last Tundra I had with the BullyDog tune was the same year as yours a 2017, loved that truck here's me being an idiot in it.

Reminds me - Why didn't they put locking diffs on our Tundras? I miss that from my Cheby that had an Eaton.

Wait, even in the TRD Off-Roads do they not have locking rear diffs?? I didn't even spec out the TRD OffRoads since this truck isn't touching dirt. But still needed 4x4 for CO living. I know my Taco had a rear diff locker

Nope. Electronic, ABS simulated LSD. Even on the non-TRD ORs.

Toyota refuses to give people what they want….like a an LSD/locker, a V8 option, tow hooks, and a non-bmw Supra.

I made the pulley hub for my modular Magnuson pulley. With how tiny this thing is I don't trust it out of aluminum, though I also haven't done any analysis so good chance the stock style pulleys are just very overbuilt. But considering the size and my intention of using helicoils, it makes more sense to just have the hub be out of steel. I might end up making the pulley out of steel too, especially on the 2.000" pulley where material is a premium. And since the pulleys are smaller they'll have a drastically lower moment of inertia so will accelerate faster regardless of what material they are, though I doubt it'd be remotely noticeable anyways. I need some larger bar stock to make the pulley, with the intention to confirm the belt properly engages. After that I think I'll feel confident to order some samples.

@snivilous what are we thinking this will make boost wise? 10-12psi?

No idea :D Viktor said 14psi with a 10% over drive, but we know the rotors rpm isn't linear to boost, so 10-12psi seems realistic?

I asked the s/c nerds over on the taco world thread for thoughts on this. LOTS of smart people with Magnuson experience over there. I feel like a toyota inter-brand ambassador lol

Does anyone know if the front cats are the same as the rear cats? I was considering removing the rear cats for 2 reasons.

    1. More aggressive exhaust tone
    2. If the front cats burn up which I know is more frequent on these trucks when supercharged, than I can have OEM spares to put in their place.

I’ve seen some people say the rears are just resonators but I kind of doubt that’s true. Just looking for confirmation.

Edit: was thinking that if anyone knows the answer to this it would be Keith @dirtydeeds

I just tried looking this up on a Toyota dealer website. Because the cats are all welded to differently shaped sections of pipe, the part numbers are different. So that method didn't work. The stone guards are different from front to rear too. I'd go out underneath my truck, but I can't see the cats anyway with the shields in the way...

Yeah, I never really found a definitive answer on this when I looked in the past. The TRD duals have a nice sound, but I think a touch more volume and rasp that would come from removing the rear cats would make it perfect IMO. And I don’t want to blow out the front cats and then have the debris take out the rears too, if I can remove them and keep them in good shape as spares since OEM ones are so expensive.

I am pretty positive it has to sound amazing. @Downytide had shared a clip of his with headers and TRD duals, I forget if it had all of the cats or not. It sounded amazing to me, almost like a Benz AMG 6.3liter V8 which is one of the best sounding engines ever IMO.

Nope it won’t. There are no O2 sensors after the 2nd cats to be able to tell they aren’t there.

Just make sure to check for no exhaust leaks when you bolt everything back up.

I haven't actually looked at where the rear o2's are located on my Tundra, but on my Tacoma and 4Runners, they're on the mid/y-pipe and having an exhaust leak there from something as simple as a shitty gasket will pop the p0420/30. Toyota donut gaskets can be iffy when being reused.

I initially removed the rear cats and sent them to dirty deeds to build them into my race exhaust. I ran them for a while on the new exhaust with no issue and no codes. One came apart and it started throwing a code. Then I put the SC on and removed the cats entirely and put in resonators.

Also never had any codes with the stock exhaust and only one cat on each side.

Thanks! I take that as the front and rear cats must both function the same as far as preventing throwing O2 sensor codes in that case.
