From what I have seen the Toyo open country tires are one of the lightest E load tires that I can find. If anyone knows of a lighter tire I’d like to know of it.

I didn't really notice much of a difference with that when going to 35x12.5 on my '23 pro.

Could you elaborate a bit? Like...would the hybrid motor kick in at certain speeds, but now doesn't? Do you feel that from a power (not mpg) perspective, the bigger tires somewhat negates the hybrid power benefits?

Same here, read somewhere >33.5" tires affect hybrid calibration. I'm more concerned with the validity of this vs the mpg deficit.
Also saw a 2023 Sequoia video from Westcott where it was not recommend to go > 35" due to hybrid power loss.

I’m certainly interested in this topic as I have a hybrid in the way and was planning 35 in tires. The 37s look awesome but I am concerned about the long term stress in the transmission etc and I like that you can fit a spare 35 under the truck.

I know nothing about the calibration of the hybrid but assumed it was RPM based and that it would actually be beneficial to have the added power with the bigger tires. It was honestly part of the reason (plus re-sale) I have waited over a year for the right truck.

Super curious about real world experience here. Certainly lots of PROs out there with 35’s that I have seen but haven’t heard any real complaints. Curious what DexterL has to say because I have followed his build closely and he seems to be very thoughtful and thorough in his decisions. I know he made a specific effort to keep the weight of his wheel/tire set up low. So if he is having problems I would have some hesitations.

after running the 35’s you definitely notice the hybrid doesn’t engage as much as it used too (simple physics- it’s load and the heavier the load the more output is needed from the gas engine). Think of heavier wheels and tires = your foot pressing more on the gas, so therefore you’re working harder at the same acceleration/ speed limiting the hybrids ability to work

Said it before and I’ll say it again, I would NEVER buy the base 3.4l engine period, especially if I was modifying it! The hybrid makes sense and I am convinced that the hybrid drivetrain offsets the loss of weight (bumpers, sliders, etc) and larger tires more so than it helps a stock truck.
That being said it is harder to keep the truck on “hybrid” mode while cruising around, but you can do it.

I sometimes toss my stock wheels and tires on for longer road trips and I am amazed at how much faster it responds and cruises…. And my wheels and tires are only 12lbs heavier per corner, most folks are pushing 40+ lbs per corner or more with wheel and tires.

personally I’d love a set of ultralight weight highway 34in tires on factory wheels, my current set up, and a set of beadlocked 37’s for the nasty stuff

Makes sense, until we get an indepth tech explanation for hybrid calibnration where can one find a set of 33.5-34" P rated 18" tires?

In 18” I’m having a hard time but in the 20” I found pirelli scorpions off the Rivian that are 48 lbs each

If I needed a highway tire that ran smooth, great tread life and all around performance while still wanting some size/beef, I would go with the 295/70r18 Michelin Defender LTX M/S. Its 56 lbs so not P rated light but they are one of my favorites.

FrozenTundra204 - Do you have the new shocks on and how are they working? Did you get your 1” or so of front lift? I saw that technically Bilstein doesn’t have these for the 2022+, but I also know the shock set up is very similar (same?) to the previous gen, so maybe those can work just fine with no modification.

You will most likely see adjustments needed after wheel changes especially if your offset changes. Wider tires would also contribute to different alignment specs. It’s cheap insurance for making your $1000+ tires last longer

    Lots of stuff!
Totally agree with Jasco1. Best to get the alignment looked at to keep those new tires happy.

I almost always get an alignment after new tires. I have found vehicles to gradually fall out of alignment over 2-3 years anyway.

YMMV but not my experience at all. I have found that hitting large potholes, curbs, parking curbs, lots of off-roading, etc is what mainly causes alignment issues. My previous 4Runner never had/needed an alignment once in the 17 years I owned (bought it new) and never had tire wear issues even after going up one size from stock tires. Not saying that much larger tires may or may not necessitate an alignment, just that it doesn't gradually fall out of alignment (at least if it's a Toyota) if one is careful about not jarring the steering components. Of course I know I'm an edge case that doesn't have a daily commute on horrendous freeways, and that 17 year old 4Runner only had 100k on it when I sold it to buy the Tundra.

Well, got bored on the winter storms so I went for a drive lol. It was pretty dangerous earlier in the drive, I couldn't see anything, just whiteout. Luckily It cleared up.

    Hell yea!
What wheel specs are you running with them?

I’m looking at possibly going 17x8.5 +35 so that the tire tucks like OEM
    I love the “OEM+” look.

They are 17x8.5 -10 off set. I will say don’t do beads to balance them. Had it and hated it. Broke them down and removed beads and went wheel weights on inside. First time using these and love them so far. I didn’t want to do a 12.5 and these were a good deal.

If you are going with 17's then ignore this but I noticed the other day the Method 318 have an 18x8.5 +40 option which can also give you that OEM+ look with 18's.
