Thats a good reason. Unsprung weight can affect MPG, acceleration, and braking. I think the TRD 17inch wheels are 25lbs each. I didn't even think about it, but looking at the Method 316s, theres no real difference at about 24.8lbs. My 18inch RAYS on the BRZ are about 24lbs. The Volks are where you get real weight savings, but not money savings.

Just realized I failed to mention another reason I’m hunting 17”, easier to find in random places and other countries like Baja Mexico if you blow 2 tires. I know most don’t have to worry about that, but a part of the equation for me.

Which black rhinos did you go with ? I’m looking at the rapids but they don’t have matte black in stock so I’m gonna have to wait it out. Still waiting for a allocation so I guess it doesn’t matter too much haha

I’d suggest going to customwheeloffset.com They have a great online catalog you can use to see what’s available for a starting point. I bought mine somewhere else but I used their website to help me find what I wanted. Then you can do a custom search with what you’re looking for. There are wheels out there, but they’re limited depending on your style. Off-road will be more limited compared to street truck. XD has some high positive and so does Grid. There are more but that’s what came to mind. When you look at the wheels that match what you want, check the bore and make sure it’s large enough.
    Bore- 106.1
    Bolt pattern- 6on5.5 (6on139.7)
    Lug Nuts- 14x1.5

    Happy hunting.

Looks good! Have you done a GPS test to see what your actual speed is compared to what the speedo reads?

Also, any side profile shots straight on?

You lucky dog you I don’t even have a build date yet last I heard I was 4th in line about a month ago so hopefully soon. And +12 seems like a sweet spot if you want some poke but nothing too crazy. What color of truck do you have on “order”

I was pretty lucky for sure, living in a small town in rural New Mexico it just happened to work out. I got a lunar rock SR5 w/TRD off-road package on "order" haha.

Here’s a great tool to compare Apples to Oranges. If you see a tire and off set you want to emulate then you can compare two set ups. Works nicely 366D7A83-03E6-440D-B212-D89F5AE174B3.jpg

I put the leveling kit on this weekend. I still couldn't find any independent shop to do the alignment, so I just bit the bullet and took it to the dealership this morning. Toe was fine, but it had some pretty obvious positive camber with the leveling kit installed.

Some pics make it look like the front is slightly higher and some don't. To me, it looks level in person. It's 24" from the center of the hub to the bottom of the fender on all 4 corners. It was 22" front/24" rear before the leveling kit. It'll have a slight forward rake again one day because I plan on a low-pro bumper & winch whenever the aftermarket catches up.

I ended up returning the RC leveling kit and going with a $45 leveling kit for the 2nd Gen. Saved $100 and no chopping of the top coil over studs! Thanks to @Rwaters for the suggestion!

I might put in a .5" or 1" shim in the rear coils one day. That'll all depend on how much towing I plan to do and how much squat there is with a small trailer. I'm thinking of investing in a small teardrop trailer for some eventual off-grid camping. Lots of BLM land around me so it's ripe for the picking!

I'm just waiting on my local Discount tire to get the tires I want. Should be a couple more days. Hopefully by Thursday...the truck will be pretty well complete. More pics to come.

Man oh man does that look good. I hope I can knock mine out tomorrow!!! I’m glad it worked out the way you wanted. Sounds like you’ll be found the same thing as new with the rear. How long did it take you? I’m assuming an hour and a three quarter should do it....

That looks perfect! What a difference, plenty of room for 35s, but 34s will look just as good.

I realized I’m getting older and my back isn’t what it used to be so it took me around 2.5 hours. Haha. Had to use a spare bottle jack to hold the weight of the coil over assembly while I lined everything back up during the reinstall. All in all, it went off with a hitch. I’m very happy with how it turned out. Jury’s still out for me regarding the rear shims. I’ve got to see the truck with some tongue weight on the rear first. Even then, I may or may not depending on how much the front goes nose down with a bumper & winch. Either way, that’ll be later in the year though. Gotta stop modding and start enjoying the truck for awhile! Lol

Yeah. There’s definitely plenty of room for 35’s and that was my original plan. However, the more I thought about it the more I couldn’t justify the additional weight for the minimal ground clearance gain. I’m going 295/70/18 which is 34.3” at 61lbs and most 35’s that I considered came in at about 75lbs or more. Which meant an extra 70lbs+ (4 road tires + spare) for only an extra .35” of ground clearance gain. Originally, my goal was to not add more than 100lbs over the stock wheel/tire setup. With my wheel/tire combo I’ll end up at about 130lbs total over stock. 35’s would’ve added over 200lbs over stock.

Long story short…the cost and the diminishing returns of ground clearance vs weight ended up making the 34.3” tires very appealing.

I've gone back and forth a million x on the same question. Only reason im still considering a 35x12.50 is that toyo makes the at3 in a load index 118, Load Range D. Simple tire says its a 66lb tire.. but Discount Tire calls it a 75 lb tire.. so I'm considering the risk. With the tundra being such a heavy truck.. i don't think a Load Range E will be that much of a difference in ride stiffness.. and from what everyone says.. it still rides comfortable.. but from personal experience when I went from a Load Range E to a Load Range C on my last vehicle.. it was night and day difference in stiffness and comfort.. so im hesitant.. but I'm still 3+ weeks out on my level kit from Westcott.. so I have some time before i decide. Personally i like the idea of a slimmer tire, and i think 295/70r18 will look awesome and also help the truck still look "lifted" as sometimes 35s can look stuffed.. depending on trim. Excited to see what tire you went with.

I have a 62lb 295/60/18s right now…probably not going to go over that size either due to some of the same things you pointed out.

I was just turned onto these Bridgestone Duelers AT’s Revo 3 today that’s supposed to be 54 lbs for the same size so you may want to check them out: I am not due for new tires yet…and if I go 17’s I will get the Territory MTs in 315/70/17 at 53lbs…and pray that they do work out since I do realize I am chasing weight reduction (to gain back my 3-4 mpg’s lost since the upsize).

    Good luck

That’s still not a bad install time. Heck, I think Rough Country says up to three hours. I believe you said it in a past post, but what bumper are you planning on using?

Congrats on the truck and a nice tire upgrade- I am planning to get the same size rubber, and some 20x9s after I take delivery of my SR5. Would you happen to know the width and offset of your factory 20s? I'm not really into poke.

    Thanks,
    Geno

I thought about going 17's for lighter weight tires but I didn't want to gamble on ordering wheels that didn't fit. I've seen on YT and here on the forums people testing various 17's from different manufacturers. Even within a single manufacturer's line up (VTX for example) some 17's clear the calipers and others don't. Even the ones that do have a razor's edge worth of clearance, so I stuck with 18's. You can easily get lighter setups than mine if you go 17" wheel & tire combo.

On the bumper...I'm not sure yet. Most likely something in a low-pro design. I'll have to wait for the aftermarket to catch up and produce a design that I like. SS Off Road and C4 are all focused on full sized bumpers right now. I haven't heard of a shop working on a Low Pro design yet for the 3rd Gen. I like them because they're lighter than full bumpers and still give you recovery points & winch capabilities.

I want something similar to the 2.5 Gen Low Profile design (pic below):

Yes I was concerned also and custom offsets assures me that they will fit so before they ship I’m going to get some sort of email or written confirmation that if they don’t they will take them back otherwise I will not be ordering

Question on Load Range since you seem to know quite a bit more than I on the subject :)
I was going to put some Toyo OC ATIII 295/70/18 (Load Range E) on the stock rims (for now), but want to add a Leer topper, and a DECKED bed storage system. Should I be paying more attention to the weight of all that stuff for the tires for ride quality, etc?
I only considered a +1" level in the rear and whatever I decide to do up front in case it sinks the truck a little due to added weight.

    Thanks in advance!
