The size of the tire was great, but those LTs were too heavy. Since then, I have switched to 315/70R17 GY Wrangler MT tires, which are not the best off-road, but are only 52 lbs each.

@beer30 That looks sick! I have been trying to decide if I am going to go with the +25 offset or the +0 offset. Possible you could get a photo of the wheel from an angle to gauge how deep back it sits? If not that's ok. I just am not a fan of wheels when the face of the wheel is either flush or close to flush with the wheel lip. I don't want to buy the wrong ones once I am ready to order mine. Either way, awesome choice on wheel and tire setup!

Love your setup, easily one of the baddest Tundras I've seen. Tires look like they're still going strong.

Do you rebalance your tires every time you rotate? I'm still getting used to mine. Rotated after the first 3k then felt vibrations on the highway. Got them rebalanced and an alignment and now it's fine. Just hoping I don't have to do that every time.

naw def not. the mennonite shop i buy all my tires thru (truck and tractor) will rotate them for free for life of them, so every 6-7k mi i’ll pop over n have them rotate em. they’ll wear rly evenly if u stay on it; but nah ive never had vibration issues or need any extra servicing just to rotate. maybe u figured it out tho since u did the balance & alignment and it’s riding smoothly. but if u have to everytime u rotate perhaps somethjng else is going on. my buddy’s all say my whip rides smoother than any pickup they’ve ever been in. crazy cuz im on 35’s.

How are you liking your Nitto G3's now? I'm thinking of exactly those in your size, 275/65/20. did you go with LT or standard?

    thanks

@beer30 thank you so much for doing that! I think I will probably go with the +0 offset, I do like a little bit more of an aggressive wheel poke. Still looks awesome though!

I've read through almost every page of this and every other forum page regarding tire fitment and I can't understand how there's so much discrepancy for 3rd gen Tundras? The first page of most tire fitment guides seems to clearly say "20″ rims: 275/60 R20 – one inch taller but same width as factory" but yet there's constantly people posting that they have larger tires on stock wheels and stock trucks. What am I missing?

I have a 2024 Nightshade/Limited Tundra on stock 20" wheels and don't want to lift or modify in any way. Does anyone know if this is truly correct?

"20″ rims: 275/60 R20 – one inch taller but same width as factory"

If not, what's the biggest and widest I can go?

Finally, I'm intending to haul a truck camper right at the limit of payload (1500lbs). Would anyone recommend a higher load rating tire? The current Toyo's are 2469p each, which means I'm well within range. I've just heard some people say the the harder sidewalls of higher load rated tires is a big plus..

Are you getting that payload from brochure numbers, or is that what's on your door jamb?

I'm betting a nightshade limited is going to be less than 1500 lbs. payload. My limited is only 1390 and then I lose another 46 lbs for the accessories.

Are you accounting for yourself and all passengers and gear coming out of that payload as well?

Heavier tires also come out of the payload rating, FYI.

275/60R20 is not the same width as factory. Factory is 265/60R20, so the 275 is 10mm wider and about 1/2" taller. Here are some other measurements from my little cheat sheet.

    265/60R20 = 32.52" x 10.43"
    275/60R20 = 33” x 10.8”
    275/65R20 = 34.1” x 10.8”
    285/55R20 = 32.34” x 11.22”
    285/60R20 = 33.46” x 11.22”
    285/65R20 = 34.59” x 11.22”
    285/70R20 = 35.71” x 11.22”
    295/60R20 = 33.94” x 11.61”
    295/65R20 = 35.1” x 11.6”
    305/55R20 = 33.21” x 12.01”
    305/60R20 = 34.41” x 12.01”
    305/65R20 = 35.61” x 12.01”
    315/60R20 = 34.88” x 12.4”

@FarDave also yes, having a higher ply rated tire or load bearing tire will aid in towing, will handle the weight of your camper much better. P metric tires tend to pancake under load and wear out much faster. They are heavier though and tend to ride more stiff/rough when just normal driving.

    Load range c = 6 ply
    Load range d = 8 ply
    Load range e = 10 ply
    Load range f = 12 ply

    Hope this helps!

I would say the main 2 reasons for discrepancy relate to alignment adjustments and variance between tire brands in the same size. Size is not going to tell if it will fit, in most cases you will just need to try them out and make adjustments as needed either to alignment or soft plastics. Tires like BG KO2's have a taper around the outer edge allowing for a larger size to clear but others may not have that feature so same size will rub on a sway bar, is one example.

A minor lift is supposed to help with rubbing but I can't figure out the geometry of how that would be possible, a small lift only moves the suspension on a arc of a circle and doesn't really move anything out of the way. Check out Tinker's Adventure YouTube page if you would like some actual science as relates to tire fitment instead of anecdotal reports from a few people on a forum.

    None at this point.
When I was a Tacoma guy we all removed the sway bar for a more "independent" suspension.
it actually didnt hurt the handling on the road.
Of course I wouldnt want to test that doing 70 and having to do some panic steering.

Looks really good! I think im going to do this exact setup. But I dont want to have to trim anything. Do you have any rubbing at full crank? Did you have to trim or pull anything back?

Read what you quoted. He states right in there that he has rubbing at full lock.

275/70r18 Wildpeak AT4W on Method 316s had a slight rub at full lock on not level ground. Removed the OEM Splash guards and the rub is gone.

From what I have read, 275/70r18 is about as big as you can go without a lift/level. Not sure how much of a difference a level makes going with a 295 that is about 1.5" taller than the 275
