This ain’t the kind of place where you need to beat someone up as soon as you walk in.

Something tells me that you won’t have much to contribute around here.

Someone above mentioned getting cats stolen while fishing. I can totally see that happening. I live in Orange County, about an hour up the coast from San Diego. There has been a significant up-tick in truck 'thefts' at the boat launch ramps in San Diego. The thing is, it's pretty easy to see why/how . . . 'most' of the trucks in the lots are in at 'least' decent shape . . . not a lot of old 'Hoopties'. Plenty of new/ newer full size Tundras, 3/4 and 1-Ton Chevy, Fords, and Dodges. High-Dolla-Rigs. The thieves know that the owners are 'generally' hours away from returning, so they can casually steal the trucks (generally with trailers behind them) and then make a bee-line for the near by Mexican Border, never to be seen again. By the time the owner calls the police, the trucks already across the border.
Mission Bay (next to Sea World) and Chula Vista Marina have been hit hard. I can't imagine coming back to the launch ramp and my truck 'AND' trailer being gone. In fact, truck thefts have gone through the roof in the inland San Diego areas as well, due to the close proximity of multiple border crossings.

I have a couple Boston Whalers that I trailer around So Cal to different Harbors, Lakes, and the Colorado River, and have never had a problem. But I have been VERY reluctant to launch out of SD recently. I might have to invest in some sort of 'kill-switch' this year for my truck . . . but then again it's a 'Gen-1' . . . lots of 'Moa-Betta's' in the lot ! LOL

I always leave a bike out for them to steal instead. So far so good.

Yeah that was me I believe. I'm from Norcal Sacramento area, its pretty bad here in the city already and recently its been happening on the river like I mentioned. The thing that sucks is some of the places I go to is a good walk (1/4 mile maybe more) from the truck and I dont have an alarm yet but thats going to change real soon. Luckily some of the other places I go to I can fish right next to or right off my truck bed. It sucks, Im over on the water trying to relax and clear my head but I cant because I have to constantly worry about my car getting broken into or parts stolen.

Yeah. This is what others suggest as well. Only reason I went the first time was because someone recco’d it as a nice place to visit, but it was based on their time in 1950-60’s. The place changed for worse.

I like the offerings of the big cities. The vibe is definitely different than small town living. I can enjoy it for a day or two, but way too many people, way too many buildings and usually way to liberal and holier than thou for me. San Fran was cool. It's by the ocean, the Embarcadero and wharf areas are nice for an afternoon visit. Dinner at the Cliff House was nice. But we rolled down the coast after to Monterrey / Carmel, more my scene than the bigger city.

The wharf was definitely one of my favorite spots in SF. There are so many beautiful places to visit in Cali from beach towns, mountain towns, desert towns your options are really endless. 1hr - 2hr drive in any direction and you’re in a totally new environment.

If you find yourself in Cali I would highly recommend the Redwood National Park in Northern Cali, the Eastern Sierra’s mid Cali and the Beach towns in SoCal(NOT Venice beach). These areas are a better reflection of Cali’s beauty vs the big cities.

Agree. Lived in the armpit for a couple years (Modesto). Not much to see, but an hour or two from some really cool places. Yosemite was a frequent for us. Northern areas by the redwoods is beautiful and scarcely populated. Did a stretch in Garberville at the foot of the Avenue of the Giants. Cool area. Not Garberville per se, but the redwoods are awesome. And Golf is fantastic in California cause the weather is so nice.

Hoopties is where the $$$'s at in car theft and generally speaking they get stolen more often. Newer vehicles have all kinds of high tech security features that have to be considered long after your driving away. Any car crook with a screwdriver can be driving our gen 1's with a bed full of cartel cash across the border, it's older and blends in better plus it's a Toyota so it's reliable.
Somebody has to stand up for the hoopties, they are usually on there 10th owner or more, look like they are heading to the junkyard real soon, loads of miles but somehow they just keep running (some pitifully). They make great experiment vehicles, buy them cheap as winter beater and in the summer you get to try frankenstein a ram air system from scrap yard pieces, larger throttle bodies salvaged from a different engine etc. Etc.
I miss my hoopty trix days

It’s actually German. “Discovered by the Germans in 1904, they named it San Diego, which of course in German means ‘a whale’s vagina’.”

I get tired of the california bashing, if you don't like it here move away. It's simple.
Why do I come to a tundra forum and read that and I can't comment back?

My piss smells like fragrance. Its the Essence of Veggies as I’m a Vegan Hand Model. I’m sure you’d show me good stuff but I’ll pass. Couldn’t hack it more than two days there last time. Maybe come visit me on Fantasy Island? I’ll show you cool things and people and things but always be careful what you wish for.

The Tundra fam here are really helpful people. All the guy said was “unfortunately”. You’re not the only one who lives in Cali. We have a lot of problems here. Legal to do heroin on the streets of SF, stealing under $1k is a none criminal offense, they are releasing criminals from jails over C19, etc etc. Some of us want better for Cali so it is unfortunate we have to live under such ridiculous conditions.
