The octane booster you throw in to clean out carbon buildup from running low quality gas (octain booster +detergents)... what kind of octane boost are we talking? I’m inclined to side with the previous commenter that said difference between 87 and 91 isn’t really enough to make a ton of difference.

And you want all the problems that come with the GM AFMs? I use 87. Anything else is a waste of money.

So they mix 91 or 93 with 85 to give you 87?

Im fairly certain that we get a mix of 91 and 87 to give us 89 octane.

Luckily for me costco premium 91 is cheaper than or close to the cost of arco 91. And about the price of 87 at a top tier gas station like Shell.

Yep, mid grade is mixed at the pump with 85 and 91 here in CO. Costco doesn't sell mid grade or else I would run 87

I came from two previous vehicles that required premium. My dodge was tuned so I had to and my TBSS was high compression. It felt like a sin putting 87 in my tundra but I did. Often I ran 89 as well. Now I have the BDX, so I have to run premium.

Usually in the form of the low octane cheap stuff.

    But in Baja, Premium PEMEX.

I usually fill up with 87 from the local Mobil station. There is also another Mom and Pop place nearby, I also fill up there with 87. I was unsure about the top tier gas thing with the Mom and Pop, but on their pumps there are stickers claiming it is Gulf fuel with additives. Truck has always run fine.

The arguments I've heard against is that cylinder deactivation causes uneven wear on the engine. But that's just what I've read, I don't personally have any knowledge of engines other than I like V8's cause they're powerful and sound awesome when you step on it.

Just recently did my first fill up and I put 87 in from a Top Tier station. Runs awesome and has tons of power. :) Three weeks ago when I took delivery of my truck the dealer filled it up with 87 at a nearby Quick Trip which I think is still a top tier station.

EDIT: My Tundra is a FFV however I do not plan on putting E85 in it.

I’d use it if it was way cheaper than gas I think... like half price. I’d still run some regular fuel in it every couple of fill ups though just to clean the crap out a little better... but I’d have to do more research and try it before I committed for or against lol

It's usually .75-1.00/gallon cheaper here in PA. Every once in awhile we'll run a tank in my wife's Durango to save some cash but the mileage drops from a consistent 22-23mpg to 15-16.

Yeah, I heard it’s like 20-30% reduction in efficiency. Also gunks up the engine quicker.

I haven’t seen any e85 pumps out here, but I havent really been looking for it either lol GasBuddy.com says regular (at Costco) is 2.49, e95 is 2.40... I’d burn through more faster and it’d end up costing me 15-25% more or so...

Usually Costco regular grade (iirc, 87 octane) since there is a Costco three minutes from our house. That being said, on road trips, I usually try for top tier fuel in regular. My personal opinion is that mid grade and premium in the Tundra is a waste of money (unless it's supercharged).

I sell gas for a living. Never, never use E85. 33% reduction in BTU content, unregulated for the most part, and it's VERY corrosive on the entire fuel system. Stick to top tier fuel as previously mentioned. A good website for reference to good fuel is toptiergas.com. Stay away from anything that isn't listed, as they typically buy whatever is left on the spot market. Retailers such as grocery stores, etc., (not including Costco) are not top tier. It does make a difference, and if you spend 30k-50k on a vehicle, a few cents per gallon savings is likely not worth it. As always, you get what you pay for. IMHO, stick to the majors. They are regulated and have regular marker testing at the dispenser, to assure they are selling the real deal. Shell, ConocoPhillips, etc. Just my 2 cents.
