Ever wonder what a Gas Turbine in a power plant looks like?

Here is an 18 stage compressor and Power Turbine.

We found out last week with an inspection and testing, we need some work done to the generator field windings. The J straps the feed the North and South poles have cracked or broke apart. I wish I could show you pictures of that. Here is prep work to pull the Generator Rotor.

Fun fact. The crane crew drove this from Phoenix, AZ to Colorado. That is one long ass trip.

This was unplanned and not budgeted for. Nothing 1.3M can't cure though.

Ouch, unplanned outages suck. Specially when you have to pull the rotor out of the generator.

Is that a 2 on 1 or 3 on 1 combined cycle unit?

It looks just like our combined cycle unit.

Yeah, unplanned outages do suck, but I am glad we caught it now before catastrophic failure. Generator bearings were needing some love as well.

    2x1 CC unit.

Pretty cool! Working in the power gen field myself, I've seen a couple of these sitting up on the turbine decks. Biggest I've ever seen would be a Bruce Power in Tiverton, Ontario. Impressive engineering.

Your plant looks just like the one I operate at out here in Bakersfield, CA, it's a combined cycle with two GE 7FA's and Alstom HRSG's and steam turbine.

Is you plant off 99 or is it 58 in Cali? For the love of God I can't remember what road I was on when I saw a pp out there..

It's about 45 minutes west of the 58, but there are about 4 or 5 combined cycles in the area, you probably saw the CalPine facility. Most of our plants are on the beach (Carlsbad, Oxnard, Los Angeles).

That's over next to tehachipi. I just moved about 5 miles north of the 58 just above Edwards.

Nice, I used to live out that way in Rosamond just outside of the base there. Just checked out your truck pic's, it looks pretty awesome.

Thanks bud. I debated the Rosemond move just o save gas. I was driving from santa clarita to base everyday. sucked. I haven't updated pics but she looks a bit different now.

We are very similar. 2 GE GT, Vogt NEM HRSGs, Alstom single reheat steam turbine.

I was pretty close to you in Bakersfield last year. In the event I find myself out your way, maybe hit you up for a tour.

I tried to contract @GNTundra to haul our rotor to Tennessee but then I remembered where @Law323 lives...

I can just see dick pics and funny inscriptions in paint stick on its return. I would never live it down....

Now that I think about it, it probably wasn't in my best interest to tell you it is coming to your current state.

I'm sure you would make a nice graffiti mural for me. Lmao.

Funny thing is, it would get installed anyway and everyone would laugh their asses off the next time it is pulled.

That is humorous since pulling out the generator rotor is often called "pulling the pickle."

We have the same setup but have issues with the light oil header coking up due to prolonged exposure to heat and infrequent use.
