is there a way to tell what size gas tank you have other than the sticker on the vehicle or what the dealer says? For example does it say it on the vehicle somewhere?

When you're near empty and fill up, if you only pump about 20 gallons, you have a 26 gallon tank. If you pump over 30, you have a 38 gallon tank.

When its on empty and you fill up how much can you put in?

If its around 18-20 then you have the 26 gal tank.

If its around 29-31 then you have the 38 gal tank.

That will definitely tell you since there's only 2 choices. What are you trying to figure out?

2016? I think they're standard on all models except maybe the SR & SR5. Limited, platinum, pros, 1794... All have 38 gallon.

    Edit:
SR5 gets it with the SR5 upgrade option.

Sarcastic 3rd choice.... Fill it up, drill a hole in the gas tank, drain, see how many gallons come out or....... use old school geometry. Measure Length X Width X Height =Volume. Works every time. Our tank is not a perfect cube but you can get pretty close with LxWxH.

I had to replace my gas tank as soon as I got my truck and when I filled it up from empty it took a little over 28 gallons. That being said it also read 600 miles till empty so I know there is a 38 gallon tank. From what other members are saying Toyota does that on purpose so people don't drive on fumes. Hope that helps

Math sucks, unfortunately I have to use it evey day at work. I'm pretty sure I still have about 6 gallons left when the low fuel light comes on. I rarely get to that point. I think most here with the 26 gallon will agree that you have about 6 gallons left. 60 to 70 miles for me. I'd like to have the larger tank. I'm pretty sure you have the larger tank. Light on?? Maybe still 6 gallons left? 8?? Don't know for sure.

For comparison purposes, I filled up my truck tonight. The computer was showing 58 miles to empty and I put 28.3 gallons in it. I filled it to the first click of the gas pump, since I've read that topping it off is bad for the emissions system or charcoal canister. When full, the computer showed 451 miles to empty. I'm not sure what timeframe or MPG calculation the computer uses to determine miles to empty, but the last hour of driving was normal around town, during which I usually average about 15.5 MPG. The five hours before that were towing a trailer, during which I average 11-12 MPG.
