But.... you get good mileage right? RIGHT..!??? Say it’s soo!!!

I don’t know if it works… But I heard if you wash only the center foot of your hood you’ll get 2 miles per gallon better. I don’t know. That’s what I heard…:monocle:

*sigh* I miss my CRX to this day. Both of them actually...I had my B16A-swapped 91 Si with all the bolt-on goodies and a full suspension (30 mpg still) and a 91 HF that got 51+ typically.

I do have a CBR250R for riding in the summer when the weather is nice...but averaging 11.5-11.9 mpg currently over the winter in WI has me looking for late-90s Civic hatchbacks for <$1,000. Unfortunately, there's too much damn nostalgia around these things...so I drive the 2019 Ioniq for anything other than my daily commute (50+ mpg, but between the wife and I, it's at around 45,000 miles after 15 months!).

Ya, fortunately I still have my CRX. It's a DX with just a mini-me. I also have a 91 hatch sitting behind the shop. As much as I pay to own and insure my truck, I hate to not drive it. Especially now that I have my own business for the last 2yrs, my commute is on foot. LoL

My favorite is the guys who reset their average fuel economy on the highway and are like "what's the problem guys? I get 25mpg all day long!"

I get like 11, all city. But it's a good 11, an 11 that gives me joy. So it's gonna stay 11.

160 mile commute this morning, cruise set at 75 (and often moving up to 85), over a couple of mountain passes (low ones), crawling through downtown San Francisco and I get 18.0 mpg. This is 2wd, 5.7, DC, unladen.

    I'm happy with this.

If you look at fuelly results, the 1/2 tons from the big 3 (GM, Ford, Ram) really don't get all that much better mpg than the Tundra. Maybe 2-3 mpg better combined, depending upon the cab and engine configurations. And if you look at what those companies do to their trucks (light weight body panels and chassis components, higher gearing, low-hanging air dams, 10-speed auto's), you realize they haven't found some magic formula to get better mpg...rather they made a bunch of compromises to aerodynamics, power delivery and reliability in order to claim a few more mpg's on their brochures.

But the difference isn't nearly as big as the EPA ratings would suggest. In real-world driving, especially working applications, a turbo v6 is not going to offer much of a mpg advantage, if any at all.

Gasoline trucks, especially heavy ones, suck down fuel...that's just the way it is. Either acknowledge that when you by the truck or don't buy a 1/2 ton truck.

I was reading something a few months back, cars from the 1920's were actually more fuel efficient due to their weight and minimalist designs. I will try to find the link for you guys, it is pretty interesting.

For those of you expecting 20mpg, just remember, the key to being happy in life is lowering your expectations. Just don't tell anybody I told you this because you will be locked in a padded cell for the rest of your mortal existence.

I'm old, I know what I am talking about.

I love my Tundra, but kept my wife's Matrix *36mph* after we got her a Honda Pilot. I like taking the Matrix to work and driving it. The Matrix makes me enjoy stomping on the Tundra and the safety of it.

I tell all of my students to buy a car like a Camry and then save up for their F250 with a lift and wheels/tires... But they always buy the truck first and then bitch about wanting better gas mileage. It starts young to complain about driving trucks with shitty MPH. Gawd Darn I like my Tundra.

The best car by dad ever owned was his 2003 Matrix. 48 mpg highway (he said). Super practical. He used that car to haul everything he needed to build a 12' x 12' sleep shack at our lake lot, for which he had to borrow a pickup. Still not exactly sure why he sold it.

It's not as much as the oil, as it's the largest size tire i can fit without a lift but still get 20mpg. :anonymous:

The best vehicle I ever had for economy was a mid 80s Suzuki forsa (precursor to the swift). It was a 900cc triple with I think 46 hp and it regularly got 4 litre/100km (I’m guessing that’s like 60 mpg) it was nuts.

    Mpg threads are fun lol

This is mostly Toyota's fault and I'm not talking about the design of the powertrain. I'm not sure what year this started but my 2020 shows two different fuel economy numbers: a rolling average on the centre screen when I'm driving and an average for the trip when I stop driving. Here's the problem: the two numbers are wildly different. I haven't hand calculated enough tanks to be sure but I'd be willing to bet neither has any basis in reality either.

My dad also had a 1989 Suzuki Swift with the inline 3 engine and a 5 speed manual. Great economy but it would struggle to get up a decent hill with only him driving it, let alone if we filled the car up with people and stuff.

I swear now that I have put a very thin coat of Crisco on my truck I’ve seen a 7-8 mpg gain. I highly recommend trying it.

Back in the day economy was achieved with underpowered engines lol. Ours would run on 2 cylinders in the winter until it warmed up, it was tiny and ugly, but it was actually a reliable car, and for poor immigrants living in a "city" it was actually perfect. The nice thing about those kinds of cars is they weighed about 1500 pounds or something ridiculous, when you got the little motor screaming you could have a "spirited" drive and feel like you're going fast and still be under the limit.
