This is not the service bulletin "temporary fix" where they lower the tank and put a zip tie on the existing line. mine exploded...

Seems like to me in these inflationary days a tech advisor job is hard to recruit qualified people to do. The couple dealers I go to never get the same person twice. Half time I get somebody in training. Seems like recall coordination is the advanced topic for newbies with the standard we will call you response with out even looking to see if parts are available

Mine went in today for the fuel line temp fix, trans ECU flash, 10K mi. maint. Had to sched 10 days ahead for fuel line kit order. 6.5 hr job. (I had pre removed both skids for them) Immaculate job on everything I can tell. Still for the life of me I cannot see any changes at all on top of the tank. No new flex hose cover, plastic loom, foam, tie wraps, etc. Did smell a hint of residual gas near the tank skid plate. Filled up tank - no leaks. Need a flex inspection cam.

The dealership finally called me yesterday and scheduled me in Thursday. Only three weeks isn't too bad for the temp fix lol.

Be sure you ask for a Loaner vehicle. My dealer tried to say “We only have rentals”. I responded Not for a Factory Recall. Toyota Corporate foots the bill! He said nothing and went and got me a vehicle for free. Typical Dealer BS. (Recalls labeled “Safety/Service Campaigns” do not include a loaner vehicle. They are typically quick software updates or small adjustments not required by the NHTSA)

They said 3 hours and that includes the free oil change state emissions/inspection so we will see. I need to have them document the excessive chipping on the front lower portion of the bed. I had the oem Amazon knock off mud flaps. I now have rokblokz! There not burning me when the lease is up!! I'm not sure if I'm getting the temp repair or remedy so I'll update afterwards.

Yep, that's what I had. Mine was 58 days in the shop at the dealership with the same "no estimated time for replacement part". Toyota agreed to repurchase under the lemon law. In my state (WA) it is a lemon after 30 days out of service. Sorry this happened to you as well! Just note that they will likely install the same faulty line and then everyone is going to have to go back in and get the new designed line installed sometime "summer 2024".

I saw an article somewhere. Gist is fuel leak problems are quite common among all brands and non trivial % of people have a park outside recall active on their vehicle. The fire rate is quite low so it is a risk but not a very high one. The rate of shorts in EVs catching fire was higher than an ICE vehicle with a park outside recall. And much lower than the years of Kias that self combusted all the time

The act of parking any car in the garage is not a zero fire risk.

This is a plastic fuel line design problem where it rubs against a metal brake line and eventually pin holes or ruptures. Toyota knew about this for at least 4 months and kept us all driving around with no fix. I had 4-5 gallons pouring down my driveway (Toyota tech said 80psi. Pressure kept it going even when the truck was off for about 45 min) with my pregnant wife standing in it, and NYE fireworks going off in the background. Could have been horrible.

I bet more fuel lines are plastic. My point is that fire recalls due to fuel leaks are very common. I personally have gotten one on my Tundra, wife's Nissan and my last Ram.

The story here is that Toyo takes long to fix an issue that is not rocket science. Feels like they are cost spreading across qtrs for financial reporting reasons. Which is horse shit and a total Detroit move.

Just like a few holes in a bed cover took over a year to rollout

It's probably been asked but, do new trucks come with this issue or is the problem fixed at factory now?

Will be interested to see if you get the recall once the new design comes out "summer 2024". My understanding from the dealership was the new trucks just come with the old design and the temporary fix already installed but will still need the tank dropped and the newly designed line installed.

I'll update this if i do but I thought the trucks involved with the recall actually got two recall notices? One for the temp fix and the other for the permanent fix. I could easily be mistaken. The only recall I'm showing at this time is for the transmission issue.

So update as of this morning, still don’t know when this part is coming in and they refuse to give me a loaner, they want me to pay out of pocket or if Toyota approves it, so frustrating.

I’m wondering, did the lawyer get back all the money or just “Kelley blue book value”?

Look up lemon law in your state. It is a formula based on the total purchase price minus the miles you have driven. has nothing to do with the current market value of the vehicle. In Washington, I am getting back the purchase price including warranty/all interest paid on the loan/ sales tax/ etc which ends up being about 10k over market value as of today. All rental/loaner fees + lawyer fees are included as well. Call the lawyer and they will tell you to go get a rental that will be free of charge to you and explain the process in your state. Toyota is giving you the run-around.

Very true. Last time I was at Toyota, I had a convo with the service manager.
He stated they have a hard time finding qualified techs or to retain them. Either they fail a drug test, get a dui which they can no longer test drive a vehicle. Just during the morning he had a few no shows also… Tough times for dealerships finding techs. Also there are those that show up and do the minimum just to get by.

I had the temporary fix completed but still show the 23TA09 safety recall since August 2023. 9 months is an incredibly long time after a recall announcement with still no remedy. App indicates this will involve replacing the fuel tube with additional clamps. Hoping this is the right thread to watch for updates re when this is finally available.

Thanks @Mattedfred ! I like how the Canadian app indicates that “Toyota is currently preparing the parts and repair instructions for the remedy”. This makes it clear that the recall is not yet ready. My app indicates that “Toyota will replace the improved part…free of charge to all customers”. Made me think it was ready. I took in my truck to be told there’s no permanent fix yet.

It followed WA state law for lemon law exactly. There is a formula for each state based on mileage minus total purchase cost. They used a third-party company (Sedgwick) that handles the payment and a representative from that company met me at the dealer to surrender the truck and sign over the truck. The whole process was painless and I ended up making about $8k over what I could sell it for private party.

EDIT: Toyota came to us with that number we didn't have to ask or negotiate
