When I brought my new truck home late at night after negotiating with the stealership a few years ago, I got a nice surprise that it didn't fit in the damn garage. Nothing a jackhammer and some cement couldn't fix.

Well dang. If you have a hitch be sure to take it out. Here is how close the front and back are.

Maybe try cutting the studs out in the wall. Reframe it like a window or something to where there is a niche/recess where your bumper can go into. Not a big deal if its a non-load bearing wall, but you said its a load bearing wall, which I'd be mighty hesitant to mess with unless I had some plans drawn up by a structural engineer. Then you are talking big $$$$$$.

That's what I'm going to do. I will end up with a covered drive way.

With how the garage door it set up I'd say at least 4-5 inches.

I totally don’t blame you. Unless you pay out the ass for a custom garage, a full sized truck just isn’t fitting.

I have seen some really nice car ports that look awesome.

I've been doing some looking around. I think for us this is the best bang for the buck. And it's a place to detail the vehicles and maybe keep the snow and frost off of the vehicles.

I got real lucky and mine fit by an inch in front and in back. I back in and use painters tape line on the wall to align to the red line on the backup camera. Works great!

Install double swing open style doors on front edge of opening, looks like you would get about a foot. Leave garage door in place for if you sell or something changes in future.

What about framing out a 2 ft bump out addition and then move the garage door out? Without seeing how the house is built regarding the roof line it may not be doable, but it would be cheap and would solve the problem.

    I agree.

You and the boys could build a nice one for reasonable cost. There was one I seen that followed the roof line and pitch of the garage. Like these:

    23043A79-9804-46A2-B75B-C2C60DE7E14C.jpg
    6A24F517-8F61-4990-B85C-C99020458635.jpg

There was a guy in my last neighborhood that built a cheap metal carport and it was lower than his garage door. Guess he didn’t consult an engineer or compensate for driveway pitch. Lol

We were going to build one at our place but since we have the room, that money will be invested into the shop.

It looks like a 2 car garage door. You could shorten the width of the doors and frame it into the current opening to push it further forward. would require rehanging the whole door.

The wall between the garage and kitchen it's probably not load bearing. As long as it's not you could remove that section of wall and turn the 2x4's the other way (flat or the 3.5 side facing the garage). You will gain 2" there. You can also use 1/4" sheetrock and gain a tiny bit more. Fyi: code may require 5/8 or double rock between living space and the garage.

This is a good idea. Maybe even a face mounted side to side sliding doors set up would work. Like the old style sliding barn doors. Just need to hang the track across the header and the doors hang from that

For some reason in CO, garages are small.

Doing an extension on a garage isn’t cheap either, and in a lot of cases not permitted nor worth the money. If one can push the back side of the garage deeper, that would get my vote. Moving a garage door out would make the contractor move the header out and cause a bunch of structural fun times.

Before deciding to sell our last home for our current one, we looked into making our 2 car garage into a double deep 4 car.

When it was all said and done, we would be into this project for 30k + to extend a garage to double deep so it would fit our lifestyles easier. We would have lost access to the back yard from the house except through garage, lost our rear porch and needed another (not in the cost). Here is the kicker, I most likely still couldn’t park in the garage due to width and trying to open my doors.

    We decided to move.

I have the same problem but the height is what gets me. I had a 18'x28' concrete pad poured beside my garage and eventually I'll put up a nice carport, something that matches the house.

Like this kinda, but 4 doors total, on 2 tracks, and surface mounted. They are called bypass sliding garage doors

They have actuators to open and close. I'm sure not cheap. In my search I also found some amazing sideways action garage doors that hang on a track and slide around it into garage on either side. Those look to use a regular opener and dont look cheap.
I bet @1UPPER may have a solution from his horse barn building experience
