As far as I know, @Cruzer is the only Tundra that’s been on the Rubicon. If others have done it, they need to speak up!

I did the Rubicon with IFS and I have the Fumoto valve, which was the least of my worries

There have been others but I believe I’m the only one to complete it in IFS, while avoiding bypasses except for Old Sluice

Sweet! I’m an east coast guy. Would have loved to get on the Rubicon, but my wheeling days are pretty much over.

Wait wait wait - you brag about wheeling and then tell us you’re an east coaster? :boink:

I’ve run Fumotos in every vehicle for 20+ years and love them. They are the first thing I purchase after getting a new ride. Never had or have ever heard of one failing on many forums.

I like nipples… but I like to put on a rubber (hose) and route the hot goo err oil to the drain pan.

If I was going full @reywcms I would not use the nipple version for added clearance, but as you can see what I have is still tucked up away. IMG_4085.jpg

Curious if anyone with a fumoto has drained the pan and then remove the fumoto. Im curious how much oil is left behind.

Once, not on the Tundra but on a motorcycle after an incident with a trailer, heh. Not the valves fault.

Maybe three or four more oil drops came out.

Fumoto or no fumoto…. Drain your oil, put in a new filter. With the pan still able to drain, pour 1 quart or new oil in and watch what comes out. Put in a second quart and see what comes out.

How anal does one want to get?

I love mine. Did an oil change Friday while I swapped the rear bumper. Between that and the *xxx somethingorother* filter house drain valve that screws in, I use 2 gallon milk jugs to drain into and got like 4 drops in the shop floor.

RCI skids stay on and I just pull the filter trap door.

I dont understand the point of you post. I was inquiring how much oil is left in the bottom of the pan when a fumoto is used since all the crud stays at the bottom of the pan and the valves threads I would assume go in farther than the pans. If you poured fresh oil in with the valve still open, the oil on the bottom of the pan is still going to be there, thats why I was curious if anyone remove the valve after draining to see what comes out.

Yes they do!!!! :) I've been running Fumotos on my Toyotas for 15 years. 6 different vehicles (4 right now) and not one ever ever ever issue.

Got an idea for you. Buy a Fumoto and install it during an oil change. Then next oil change drain off about 6 quarts and grab a sample for analysis. Lastly, remove the Fumoto and drain the rest while grabbing a sample for analysis. Send in both samples to Blackstone and see what if anything is different.

Saw a video on a Taco, and there was a little bit left. In a 3.5 engine it worked out to something like 5% of the 6.2 quarts. With modern oils and 5,000 mile OCI I'm fine with that. With the slant the Tundra has on the plug it might be even less left behind.

I just put the fumoto and jowett housing on my Taco, and I bet I could do my next oil change in a suit and tie. So good they should both be industry standard.

I don't really have a problem turning one bolt to drain the oil twice a year but if I did have one I would do it just for curiosity.

I always wonder if there is any metal shaving would still stay at the bottom of oil pan with the valve on.

You can always pop the valve out. 14mm deep socket on the long nipple model works.

Even with the factory plug, there is still the nut welded inside. At some point you gotta trust the filter to function as designed.

Your oil filter should catch anything large enough to be visible…but if you have visible metal in your oil then you likely have bigger problems to worry about, methinks

I lost it in the very first deep snow. Have a piece of electric copper wire instead, much more durable and trusty ;)

I'd think if it were a metal shaving big enough to not fit through the (slightly) smaller diameter of the fumoto... Then you probably have bigger issues at hand

    This.

If you are really worried, you could throw a substantial neodymium magnet on your pan to try and lock in any ferrous metal, but then it will never leave the pan, so :notsure:

This whole thing reminds me of those close-up videos showing how easy it is to fix a minor scratch on a car finish, and then zooms out to show a completely totaled crushed car. Hyperfixation on minor inconsequential details when there's glaring problems elsewhere that demand much more attention.
