    To add to the mix:

I once read on the TIS the the gas gauge will only update and move position when vehicle speed is 0. So if you are on the highway at cruise it won’t move until you slow down and stop at a stop sign or traffic signal.

I have never watched my gauge close enough to verify this but I can believe it as road bumps and noise cause the gas to slosh around and make the float be all over the place.

    Too many, but not enough....
With this trucks stellar gas mileage I can confirm that you can definitely see the gage move down if you drive longer than 30 minutes lol

X2 guage moves while in motion regardless of speed or terrain. Have had mine wound up pretty tight for 2-3 hours per stretch between fuel and piss stops.

I've never heard of issues caused by filling up. I HAVE heard of issues caused by topping off, so I stop when the gas pump clicks off. Maybe those issues are related to how many steep hills you have to climb? I have none of those.

The issues associated with topping off, on Tundras exclusively or have you seen it happen with another vehicle? Genuinely curious.

Again, type it in a search engine and you'll see plenty.

I have never experienced any fuel system issues on any of my vehicles. I read something that I felt was reliable several years ago about topping off that made me start finishing with the first click off. My mild OCD wanted each fillup to end right on the dollar. Now I consider it full the first time the gas fill is triggered to stop the feed.

    Oh trust me, it updates!

Hook a big sail to the back of it... you can actually watch the needle move as you drive down the road! :(

I have plenty of anxiety as it is. I try not to overthink the gas situation.
I looked under the truck,......there's no 2nd reserve fuel tank.
While in the city and commuting to work during the week, there's a gas station on every other corner. I drive until I hit roughly a quarter tank, or until the idiot light comes on. Then I plan on getting gas on the way home.
On road trips, I plan on getting fuel roughly every 300 mi or so. Once the idiot light comes on, I know I have a good 80 mi left, if I want to push on to the next stop. Google maps will help you preplan and find where all your stops are along the way.
When I fill up, I wait for the click and then slowly top off to the nearest dollar. It's partly OCD and partly a little mini challenge/game. Half the time I go over by a penny.

I'd be lying if I said I'd never played this game, albeit a bit differently.

I let it run at full speed, then try to stop it on 77.77, or 88.88, or 51.50, etc. :p

OK then, this newbie learned I actually do have a 26 gallon tank, but the system is telling me "empty" when there are 6 gals reserve to spare (I don't recall seeing that nugget in the Owners Manual). Sorry for rehashing an old topic, but I do appreciate the responses.

I just filled up this morning. Gas gage showed almost E and 27 miles until empty. It took a little over 31 gallons to fill it and I have a 38 gallon tank.

I don't think it's an option - it's the standard on all crewmax trucks. (Larger 38 Gallon Tank)

You can drive 50+ miles after it shows 0 (because there is a 6+ gallon reserve)

Add a big headwind into the mix! I have to stop for gas so often with a trailer and wind that the wife never has to request I stop for a bathroom break, sometimes she just stays in the truck because she doesn't even need to go. :(

For a time it was only in trucks with a certain package. Column shift bench seat trucks had the smaller tank, regardless of cab size.

I mean on all 5.7 - Gen 2.5s (2014+); from what I remember reading it was standard 38 Gallons.

Nope. The tank wasn't added to the Tundra until 2016 or 2017. Prior to that they all had the smaller tank.
