Just offering a second opinion here. My guess based upon your symptoms is a failing check valve in your fuel pump. Fuel leaks out of system due to bad fuel pump check valve after shut down. On next crank, it takes a while to refill and pressurize, hence the delay before it starts . You even note this in your reply. You have to wait for the pressure to rebuild and as soon as it does, engine runs fine. Pretty much text book symptoms for failed check valve in fuel pump or a leaking injector.

That's more like a leaky injector.

Does it start good during cold starts?

Rich on start up is also an alcohol density issue symptom. It takes way more E85 on a cold start than gas so when it incorrectly reds high ethanol it is really rich when it does finally fire.

Don’t make this more complicated than it is.

That points more to the ethanol setting problem, as it greatly enriches the fuel delivered during start up.. pump check valve starve the system of fuel during cranking. Leaking injectors also starve the system, but dump the fuel into one cyl. You get one puff of fuel smell followed by long cranking with no smell.

Definately start with the easy stuff.

100% it is not a part issue. It’s a software f up. Get a computer fix the issue. :fistbump:

The original post indicated that the truck would not start until the fuel pressure rose. That matches my response and would be inconsistent with an ethanol percentage problem. Once the op indicated the smell of raw fuel, I suggested it was an ethanol issue. Like i told the other poster, not EVERY crank no start symptom is due to ethanol percentages. Clearly we got bad data with the fuel pressure.

there was a post the other day with same symptoms. Everyone said it was ethanol, but in fact was a leaking injector. I get that it is a very common problem, but that doesn’t make it the answer to every problem.

Get new injectors too - new fuel pump while you’re at it.

Let me ask this. Why in the world would you start throwing new parts at a problem when a simple reset with a computer could very well fix the issue? Always start small and work ur way up. I get there could be other causes but let’s eliminate the most obvious ones first

I recently pulled my 38 Gallon tank and fixed a fuel pump issue on my flex fuel 17. That Donut filter on the pump was stopped up. That switching valve is easy to go around with a non flex supply line and cap off the regulator line. You must leave the switching valve connected electrically. You need the URD Kit to put an external fuel filter in front of the tank. It comes with a pump I chose the DW200. There is a bunch of photos of all this just research Flex fuel threads here on the Forum. It's a fairly hard job for one person but a good helper makes all the difference. My truck is starting with gusto and runs smoother than ever. No CEL
