So Toyota knows about this and there is a potential fix coming out for it? I've had the problem for over a year!

So, I took the truck to dealership today. The service advisor pretty much was clueless- she said they would just keep there a few days to drive it and see if it does it again.. I’m like nope, not gonna happen- I need my vehicle for work and daily life. She’s like we would just leave it here and wait for Toyota to tell us how to proceed. I’m like I’ve read enough online to know it’s a widespread issue- can’t you just do a TAS report and if they come up with a solid solution or recall then I can bring it back- but I don’t want my truck sitting here as a Guinea pig and adding and removing things in hopes that it works. I just want it on file i came in for this issue that way if it prolongs and my truck is out of warranty it’s on file that it’s been happening

My 2023 did it for the first time today. It's almost like it's reading correctly and not hiding those extra 6 or so gallons in reserve....

I bought a new 2023 limited on May 1st. So far on my first two fill ups I am having the same problem as most others at roughly 3/4 of a tank.

The service rep at my local dealer told me today that Toyota is aware of the issue and that I should receive a letter soon informing me of the process to get it resolved.

So , update on my fuel gauge issue…

I took a road trip this weekend, and noticed if the truck is running and it reaches that 3/4 of a tank area when it normally resets it won’t do it if my truck is moving. So, it’s only an issue when it’s in that 3/4 area and you park and turn off the truck.

I had truck at the dealership yesterday and they calibrated and flashed the ecu. Hopefully that works

I brought my 2023 in this week to get the software update. They couldn’t complete the update as it already came updated from the factory to fix the problem. The dealer is now having to talk to Toyota as my unit has the fuel gauge issue and the software update.

That is good news. Any other little fixes they plan on doing to the 2024’s?

Toyota called me today saying it’s still not a fixable issue on my 23- and they are considering a buyback. If I decline to sell it back future repairs will not be covered.

the buy back seems like a stop gap for those complaining the most. not like toyota is going to do a 168k truck buy back for all those affected by the fuel tank guage issue.

I tried both trick to get the gauge to reset and it still keeps going to 1/4 mark even tho the tank is full. rats!

Well, that’s your opinion… but I’ll believe what the local manager tells
Me. I’ve only contacted the dealership once about it, they contacted me to go in and get the ecu reset and calibrated. Then they reached out to me asking if it’s happened again.

I've brought this up at each service (4 of them). They tried the ECU reset to no avail. I brought them the TSA that someone posted and they tried that last time but still doing the same thing. The service guy told me he will replace the cluster if it continues. Not sure if that is a fix. I'll post updates. I have the truck since March 2022 and it has just over 21k. Guess we'll see.

It is more than a little crazy to me that we are just getting offered a “shrug” from Toyota on remediation options for all the 2022-2023 owners. Toyota recognized it as a common issue, remedied it for the third model year of the redesign, but doesn’t seem too interested in providing fixes for the already existing trucks.

I wonder if they can replace the 22/23 parts with 24 redesigned parts to remedy the issue. Picked up my new 2023 truck three days ago. I have 75 miles on it, parked it with 3/4 of a tank, gas gauge said full on next start. My first thought was some jealous neighbour put something in my tank to wreck the truck . Decided to do a quick search on the forum to see if others experienced the same issue and here we are.

I’ll report it at my next maintenance visit but in the interim, stopping on a flat level surface, killing the engine in Drive, waited 10 secs, shift to Park then restart, the gauge was reset to the actual fuel level. No, it can’t recalculate MPG or MTE accurately at that point but that’s ok. At least the gauge is reading the true level again.

I tried that several times. Also tried the other workaround that had worked in the past. Hold ODO and hold brake and turn off truck. While continuing to hold odo restart. Didn’t work either

I hate to be the bearer of bad news. I took possession of a 2024 Tundra Limited on Monday(10/09/23). Tuesday evening I parked nose up on my sloped driveway with about 3/4 tank. Turned the truck off and when I started it the fuel gauge registered full. When I got home from work today I parked on a level surface and did the ODO press and hold work around and the fuel gauge returned to what I'd expect.

Sorry for the dupe post, I'm new to the forum and did know this thread existed.

Do we know if this is only affecting the larger fuel tanks?
I have the baby 22 gallon tank, park nose up daily overnight in my driveway and haven’t had a problem with the fuel level in my 10 months of ownership.

Sorry, i didn't mean to imply I was parking that way to prevent the issue. I was just letting folks know what may have caused it and that its still happening on 2024's

I’m in the “It’s bad software” camp now. Thinking back at 5 Toyotas, 2 Suburbans, a Nissan and a Ford parked in my driveway over the past 24 yrs, none of them having this issue with just a standard float sensor in the tanks. (All were injected) I don’t believe any of them set their fuel gauge levels immediately at start-up like the new Tundra is doing. None of them ever had the fuel gauge read any different in the driveway vs after pulling off the driveway. It’s possible they weren’t taking the initial reading til after a specified run time or set speed was reached. Somehow they all avoided this issue including the previous Toyotas, latest being a 2016 Tacoma.

Ran into this issue myself a handful of times. Took it to the dealership and no errors came from the fuel system.

I disconnected the negative battery terminal and that worked. The only inconvenience is that I have to set the time zone. My wife drives my truck regularly and I would hate for her to get stranded, so I am considering this a minor inconvenience.
