I noticed this morning before getting gas that my fuel door was sticking out a bit further than normal. I pushed it the rest of the way closed but it wont stay closed. There is no spring pressure what so ever keeping it open or closed. I crawled under the truck and can see the spring thats supposed to keep it closed and open. The spring is pretty rusty but seems to move as it should when I open and close the door. Any of y'all ever had this happen to your truck?

Never heard or saw that. Try to spray some cleaner in there with fuel cap on of course. Maybe some dirt is stopping it or something.

Well after looking at ut again and trying to manipulate the spring with minimal pressure it snapped in half. To the dealer I go I guess!

Mine was doing that last week, but it was because the little tether on cap was twisted up like crazy and was pushing out on the door. I unwound it and all was well again.

It is but if I could get a spring for a few dollars and change it out in 15 minutes thats better than wasting my time at the dealership

someone posted in a FB group the same thing and after they manipulated the tether on the cap like mentioned above they were able to angle it in a way to get it flush again. but if you're under warranty, that's the answer right there.

.....but the spring broke. You'd think the dealer would handle this of course.

I have a '16. Same thing happened about a year ago. It's not covered. There is not a replacement spring. I ordered the replacement pocket assembly from Roman. Be sure to order through someone who knows the part. Local dealer ordered the wrong part. Roman got me squared away. Two minute removal and install, tops, from start to finish.

Minor details....ha. Air winger. PMEL. Calibration school at Lowry AFB in 79. Still in calibration after 40+ years. Yeah I'm old. I spent almost a third of my 5 years in Japan TDY on Air Force bases.

Dropped the truck off at the dealership tonight. I'm doubtful that they have the parts in stock to fix it so ill probably swing by and grab the truck tomorrow after work until they get the parts to the dealership. From what I have resesrched it looks like they have to replace the entire fuel cap hood, which includes the fuel door, spring, and hood(housing assy) .

The fuel door you have easily pops off and replaced onto the replacement pocket.

I was at Lowry a few years after you. I had two Marines in my basic electronics course there, they were PMEL troops as well. I was I-level avionics, the only job with a longer school than us was PMEL. Denver was a nice place to be, too bad they closed that base. I still need to get back up there and (re)visit the air museum. CHECK on the old topic, I'm right there with you. Thanks for your service to our great country!

and not to completely hijack this one...I only have 600 miles on my Limited and certainly do not like the way my fuel door sits now. Doesn't even feel like there is a spring behind it but I will look, it's weak, flimsy and doesn't feel like any sort of positive engagement when its "closed" just kinda flops there. I'm curious if it moves around at hiway speeds?

I had this issue a week or two ago with my brand new truck after leaving a car wash.

I pulled the gas door assy off and tweaked the spring a bit for more tension... then removed the annoying gas cap tether altogether.

    Works like a charm now.

The dealership called and said that the part was on national backorder. My guess is there was a problem in the manufacturing of the spring itself, possibly the wrong type of metal and that it is a common problem(reason why it is on national backorder).
