Sorry for going dark all week ... been a long one. Still waiting on black leather to arrive but should be here by 8pm today. Another member sent me his factory inserts for a 3rd gen DC so those will be mocked up this weekend and i'll get some real photo's posted. I will be doing these in batches so please bear with me while I try to get these all cut and assembled. Once the bulk of the 3rd gen orders are completed i'll get to work on the 2nd gen version and if anyone is willing to send me a set of their 2nd gen crewmax and DC inserts please PM me.

I thought we confirmed that 2nd gen CrewMax was the same as 3rd gen?

 

USPS now is telling me that the leather may be here sometime before the end of next week. I do have brown and white leather still so i'll get some of those made up this weekend as well and get some real photos of the 3 leather options. Thanks!

 

We confirmed that the CM is the same inserts based on the part number but not the DC. I'm looking for a set of 2nd gen DC inserts to model off of or to get confirmation that they are the same as the 3rd gen DC. Most of the orders are currently 3rd gen DC's or CM's so i'm focusing on these first so I can get these moving and see the pics of them installed

 

I'd like some white leather Platinum Tundra ones. CrewMax here.

 

Sorry for the delay everyone but weather here has been kinda rainy and miserable but tomorrow is going to be nice so I will be in the garage getting to work! At some point tomorrow I will have pictures of the brown and white leather options and will get the CAD work done for the DC option as well (hopefully tomorrow .. if not definitely Sunday). I'm also waiting on some other materials that I want to test out as the backing material for the leather. I'm hoping to streamline this into a single process rather than the 3 it is currently (engraving/cutting leather, cutting the backing material and then adhering them together). Hopefully I can get this to work the way I want it to and overall it'll be a better looking product and i'll be able to produce these faster!

 

Ok so after some time in the garage today here are the photos of the white and brown leather. Please note that the brown leather is not a match for the factory 1794 leather and is more of a medium brown rather than saddle tan.



I am removing the white leather option but the current white leather orders will be honored if you still want these in white. I think they look great but they take a lot of cleaning work after and never really get clean (photo below is after 10 minutes of scrubbing with dish soap). That being said if you want to keep your order in white that's fine otherwise let me know. They are a bit deformed here since they are wet but that'll fix itself when they dry.


Also after quite a bit of testing i'm not sure that the leather actually needs any sort of backing or reinforcement. They stay in place and don't seem to move around so this might be an unnecessary step. Any thoughts?

 

I think they only really need the backer material if the leather might curl over time without it.

 

How about poster board or card stock? Too flimsy?

 

I'm still thinking it won't be an issue but I could see something such as thin plastic as a backer. Only problem is that laser-able plastics (IE don't melt too much or give off toxic gases) are lots of money. Card stock might be too thin and I also wouldn't want paper in that area due to the potential of getting wet and holding the water.

I have some leather ones in my truck now without a backing so i'm going to see how those do sitting out in the hot truck for a week. This could also be something that is left up to the purchaser and could be easily glued to the factory inserts if you live in a hotter climate such as Arizona. I am waiting on some other potential backing materials that should be here by the end of next week so i'll let you know after I experiment with those. Again haven't decided one way or the other yet just brainstorming

I did some testing with other backing materials (yesterday since they came in later that I expected last week) and have a little bit of work to do this week on these. I should be ready to actually start accepting orders and shipping these out to you by the end of next week.

Ready to start accepting orders for these. Pricing will be the same as the original post but to make things simple for all of us and to get these out quicker i'm going to do a flat rate of $5 shipping to the US. These will ship USPS with tracking number and multiple orders can be shipped together for the $5. For any of our Canadian friends let me know and i'll get you a price for shipping .. just PM me with address.
