    That is one of my main suspects, too, because I don't like the way the ...strut mount (?) rubber is squishing out and cracked, but: sounds like you're ignoring torque specs?

    Is there anything in there that might be wrong that should be rectified that this over-tightening (if I am understanding correctly) is covering up? In any case, at this point, I'm going to try what you did - sounds good.
