2 Tacomas and now Tundra. I have never changed washers and never have had a leak. I changed the transfer case fluid on my Tacoma at 50k and it looked like it came out of the bottle. I have not changed it on Tundra at 5 years and 75k. I may change it next year. As far as loctite goes I don't see a problem with blue but unnecessary.

I’m doing this and just at 4quarts already dripping out. I have 2019 4.6 rwd. I’m aware manual says 4.9quarts so I proceed to put another quart in and there’s so much oil is coming out I put the fill plug back in and about quarter to thirds of a quart spilled before I put the plug back and now I need some answers because this confuses me. Thoughts?

You’re overthinking. Make sure the truck is level, fill it, plug it, drive it. If you didn’t jack up the axle tube opposite the drain it may not have all drained.

Not at all I’m on leveled ground. I let it drained over 20 mins till almost nothing coming out. When filling just at 4qt it started to drip. Like I mentioned I still went ahead and added the 5th quart while applying pressure on the fill hole so nothing drips out till I finished adding the last quart.. oil started coming out. I measured the fluid that came out only 4qt plus a third of a quart of clean oil that I fought when finished filliping the 5th quart

Didn’t lift the truck^. Is it possible to burn gear oil? only 4qt came out. I’m at 49k. Gonna go for drive find a level ground and check again.if nothing comes out the fill hole I’m a third of a quart low.

If it’s to the check/fill plug, it’s full. It doesn’t really matter how much was put in.

The capacity for the 4.6 tundras is 4.9qt. I get that if it starts to come out it's full, that is the way to tell. but why did only 4qt come out in the first place? and when filling new oil at 4qt it already steadily drips like how it should. You're saying that it's okay to only add 4qt of fluid to a 5qt capacity dif? That doesn't seem correct. Has anyone else experienced this on their 4.6 tundras? this is what confuses me because I have the 4.9qt capacity dif and not the 5.7 tundras that have the 3.9qt capacity. The truck runs fine no noise or anything unusual tho I didn't get to check levels earlier so I will tomorrow.

I have stopped messing with Toyota fluids before 100k miles. It always looked new to me and felt like a waste. Awesome engineering.

Checked the fluid level and as I expected about another half quart came out. This indicates I have 3.9quarts capacity not 4.9. Unless 4.9quart is only needed when completely dissembling the dif? Still weird to me 4.9quarts should have came out when I drained the fluid but only 4 did. Anyway truck seem to run fine and all this is new to me. I just wanted to make sure I didn’t miss anything. Also, I used valvoline 75-90

But every fluid in the truck besides the coolant and brake fluid is an oil. ATF, steering, diff, transfer are all oils, so why change one but not the others? Also brake fluid absorbs water and will corrode parts in your calipers causing seized brakes, and waiting to long to change your coolant allows it to become acidic. The only fluid Toyota actually says is okay until 100k is the coolant but then it says to do it at 50k after that so obviously it really should be at 50k anyways.

Just did both diffs myself and used Amsoil 75W90 in the EZ packs simply because I wanted to try them out. I had my doubts at first but now will never change the diffs any other way. The EZ packs are so convenient I wish they had them for the transfer case, but that is some golden child blood diamond laced shit of an oil only a few make.

Anyway I replace the washers every time. YMMV.

Not gunna lie, I dont like the new squeeze packs, I actually pour the fluid into an old plastic quart container and pump it in, plus now you need a separate container to put old fluid in, same issue with those new boxes of oil you can buy that have a bag in it.

Really? I thought they were great over using the pump, which is what I have used for years. I'm not understanding what you mean about a "separate container to put old fluid in"? I drain the old fluid into a drain pan container and then put the old fluid into a 5 gallon bucket. When that is full I take it to the recycler.

Funny story, last year at SDBA Nationals someone (not in our group) decided to use some of Marty Logan’s oil (9x world champ) in one of the burners - they didn’t take into account he runs blown alcohol and his oil was packed with super flammable fuel. Couple people lost their chairs that night…

Around me you can just take the old jugs filled with the old oil back to Walmart at the service desk but it needs to be in a container and I dont think a plastic bag counts. Luckily I usually have a partial empty turkey fry oil container I can use for small jobs like differentials.
