It takes about 7.5 years at 10000 miles per year if towing. I use towing, because why else would you buy a diesel truck? Personally, people don’t buy diesels to “pay for itself”. They buy diesels to do work a gas motor can’t and they need them. I really don’t care what fuel economy I get, it is just an added benifit that diesel is more efficient than gas by 30%. My towing mileage is what most get on here empty.

Did you factor in a commuter car as well? Daily driving a diesel...well read post #1 in this thread and why it isn’t a good idea.

It is a connivence and safety factor you can only get in a modern diesel. If you have ever towed with one, you wouldn’t ever go with a gasoline engine again...ever.

It is all on usuage. Some people can’t afford to have a diesel just sit and used for whenever. This is where a Tundra shines like a new penny. You buy a Tundra, you get an pretty damn great truck that does everything good...and that’s ok. I wish I could afford to have another Tundra in my driveway. My selfish wife won’t give up her Tacoma and get one. Can you believe that crap?

Well, I got to go out and hit the hills to go shooting. Need to start up that diesel that hasn’t ran in 3 weeks. Hope it starts. Lol

I also went from a 2013 F250 Platinum diesel. I miss the heated steering wheel. Thats it.

Oil changes at the dealer for that truck were $140 f that

Jesus, Fords are so expensive for any maintenance. The filters are the main cost...must be made of platinum or gold.

welcome aboard, I almost bought a Ford SuperDuty. My 5 year old said "Pull in here" on our way to the Ford dealer. So we pulled into the Toyota dealer to take a look. Test drove one and that was that. If it wasn't for my son, we'd be in a Ford. I love the Tundra. Gas mileage isn't the greatest, but heck, it's a truck, they aren't made for gas mileage. We have a Prius for gas mileage.

Wow. That is cheap for 87 octane. We are not that lucky here in CO.

I’m not anti Tundra, so don’t take it that way (don’t think anyone on here believes that) It is the best option for someone with brains, and only needs the capacity of a 1/2 ton.

It will be interesting to see the market after the power stroke diesel motor comes out in the F150 in 19’.

    Too many to list
I have had luxury V8 full size SUVs and Mercedes GL & R in Diesel. Diesel might be a little expensive as compared to REGULAR gas in winter but it’s actually cheaper or same price during spring/summer/fall.

No matter how you do your math, Diesels are cheaper than Gas motors in short/long term and last longer.

87 Octane regularly drops below $2.00 here. I think I paid $1.98 per gallon the other day to fill up. I guess I am just lucky... Diesel for my F350 runs around $2.69 here

Double lucky. I remember my first diesel, 1.27 gallon. Then when ultra low sulfur diesel came out so the US could trade worldwide, that was the end of that pricing real quick.

It seems almost everything boils down to money...
Speaking of which, I was going to buy a new fifth wheel to replace the old one I sold a few years ago but the Superduty started having more issues again. It is a 2003 F350, 6.0 Diesel, so I "bulletproofed" it, but majority of my issues are stemming from the bulletproofing kit. The primary issues I am running into is the kit keeps leaking from different spots everytime I turn around.
I wont even try to pull anything larger than a 30 footer with my Tundra, just too much work, and white-knuckling.

Yep Yep, I am a cheap bastard so I will likely not be buying a new or newer one. At least I don't have to mess with DEF issues.

I have a 2010 tundra crew max TRD with 150,000 miles. The truck has not cost me a dime except for exceptional maintenance I have done. I found a 7.3 diesel crew cab with only 165,000 miles on it. They are becoming harder and harder to find and I’m thinking about selling my tundra to buy it but I’m having trouble parting with the tundra. Any suggestions or opinions

    Not nearly enough room here!
You're buying more truck in the Ford for sure. Question is, do you need it as much as you 'want' it!:D Craigslist in PA just listed a '99 7.3 4X4 Long bed Crew cab with 27,000 miles on it for $27,900. THAT'S a rare-bird!

Always thought a diesel was bad ass not because I tow anything but I just love the look of them from the factory and they way they sound. I know most people that own a Super Duty or 2500HD don’t tow anything but rather love the look of it along with the power and sound.

The 7.3 will require more maintenance than the Tundra for sure; however, that Powerstroke is legendary!
