Driving down 101 today, 75-85, and my 7 day old truck starts making an insane noise. Freaked the wife and I out. So I slowed a little and it lessened a little. Not in volume, just amount.

I come home, start up Google and find a video of my exact noise... FROM 2005!!! Then I spent an hour reading about this noise from Tacomas and Tundras spanning all generations.

How in the hell has a manufacturer continued to make a product with such an horrible defect that has affected so many of their vehicles?

    Enjoy:

Not everyone gets it. From my digging, apparently it shows hard when there's a stiff crosswind.

Mine makes the same noise as the video when in a cross wind at high speed 75+. Thought I was the only one. Planning to discuss with the dealer at my 5K visit and will go look at my window seal, I figured it was the passenger door pulling away some in the crosswind.

Depending how much chilli I eat or how many bean and cheese tacos I eat in the morning will depend on the wind noise coming out, then I have to open all the windows to damper the noise the wife's going to make afterwards. Darn noise.

I have had this before on a crappy windshield replacement job. There ended up being a small gap in the seal. Had it redone and all was well.

Sounds like a bad molding seal (or lack of). Had something similar on a Challenger I flew after a new windscreen was put in. One small section (maybe an inch or so) on the FO's side didn't set/cure properly - and it made a high pitch squeal for freakin' 5.5 hrs on our RTB.

Inspected on landing, and found the little uncured part was lifting enough to cause the squeal....they re-sealed and problem solved.

I'd bet you're running into the same thing. Do your best to identify the location, then see if there's a part that can peel up - I'll be you'll find that's what the deal is.

On a side note - twice a year on each of our vehicles, I run some Adams vinyl/rubber protectant on all rubber seals - especially in the doors. Keeps it all pliable and functional, and since I started doing that a long time ago - I've never had an issue with any vehicles....water or noise.

Just get them to change the moulding. It should be on their tab and under warranty!

I don't get this noise at all. I drive on I-80 across open desert where there are severe crosswinds and I've never encountered this noise/issue. I also have a roof rack installed, and experience increased wind noise from the rack, but it's nothing like what's in your video. I drive a 2016 TRD Offroad CM. It really sounds to me like the wind has to be hitting some small object and whistling around it, I imagine that's why not everyone sees it. Hope you/dealer get it figured out.

Knock on wood I have the old window molding and it has not made a noise out on the highway's evening in a strong wind. I bet it has to hit certain direction for it to make it.

Keep me posted if you find a solution. I need to take mine into the dealer later this month but trying to isolate where the sound is coming from before discussing with the shop. Not sure saying it sounds like a dying whale will help my case but is a good description of what it sounds like.

Everything I've read (dozens of posts) said it's from the seal around the windshield. If you can pull the edge away from the glass, it's your culprit.

I haven't bothered to dig deeper.

Hopefully this will be resolved today, dropped it at the dealer this morning. I have a recording of the noise but dealer said they would need to drive it and hear it themselves. Not sure how I feel about telling the dealer they will need to get on the highway and drive around 70+. :(

So when I posted this, the truck was spanking new and it was my first highway trip.

I've done 85+ several times since with zero noise. I'm almost positive it was the crazy heavy crosswind we had that day.

Mine makes the noise about every time out.. Just needs a slight crossing headwind with speeds just over 60. I think it's getting worse. The dealer tech didn't hear it today but the service advisor took it out after the tech and witnesses the compliant. So now they just need to resolve.. keeping it overnight. Gave me a Taco TRD to drive.

So I have a question...to stop the squealing noise, can I just get a bunch of caulk/sealant, and go around the windshield, or do I have to pull the windshield and get it “re-set”? Is it that or the trim mold on the sides of the window making the noise?
