Was your fuel tank full at that time? Dont know if your 16 had the big tank like the 18s do but the weight of fuel coupled with all the remarks mentioned above may be causing some of this? Just a thought... good luck at dealership and let us know what they say.

    Oh and welcome...

Toyota is perplexed. Our 18 can pull 10k our camper fully loaded is 9k the camper was not loaded making in less than 9k the bed twists with any loaf being connected unless we run w/o our weight distribution bars which is not an option and in fact the reason for them..I stand by my thoughts that either Toyota made 18s with thinner lighter steel or there is a hitch towing issue. We will see but I dont hold out hope for 18s or 19s. I cant get back the time or memories in lost trips and not sure what will happen when this house is sold and closed in January of 19. Wr will be homeless. Personally I believe Toyota should be paying this loan until the fix this problem.

Ok update. They brought a new 18 double long bed with less than 50 miles on it and it does the same thing and so does the short bed so this is a Toyota issue and not an issue with the truck itself! Now waiting to see what they do

What year was your previous Tundra, 2015 or 2016 (you had mentioned two different years in earlier posts). I wonder what year there may have been a change. Would be nice to see if there are visible differences between certain years, such as frame thickness, mounting bolt pattern, hitch, bumper, etc...

Thanks for keeping us informed of your progress. Sad that you are missing trips though, major bummer.

UPDATE. They are flying in 2 engineers from overseas to evaluate the issue with the bed and frame twisting while hooked to the camper. They will look at it Nov 26. We have missed out on so many trips intended to make memories with our children, grandchildren and family. We've lost a lot because of cancellations. So over this.

I’m not even sure why you are waiting on this to be honest. Do you think Toyota will give you some sort of settlement?

Sell Tundra and purchase the tool for the job. One of our other forum members sent me a picture of his new 19’ GMC Denali 3500 today since he needed a bigger truck.

If you have read the full thread you would realize why I have a new 2018 with less than 200 miles on it so selling is not an option not to mention they have already stated that a buyout would be done if they found no assembly issues. if this is an issue with the new Toyota products then people need to know. They have no option but to buy back because they cannot fix this any other way

P.s. this has nothing to do with needing a larger truck its towing capacity is 10200. Plenty heavy enough to tow a fully loaded 9k camper... it is a tundra issue, this the engineers coming to inspect

I have read the complete thread.

Hopefully you get a buyout soon and a new whatever.

We have not received a determination yet. They said our camper axles may have something to do with it.. umm.. ok....not! Then they said our tongue weight is 1100lbs and the truck can only hold 1000lbs so we moved the 2 propane tanks. Then they said our hitch the camper hooks to is too long.. ????

If yes, stop posting here. Seriously, that’s the first thing an attorney will tell you. Anything you say on here related to this experience can and will be brought up in court if Toyota can use it against you.

Only thing I can see is if the hanger/equalizer bushings were worn out, and causing excess force on the tow rig. I think that’s a stretch though.

Kind of a bummer that they found your pin overweight. This doesn’t help your case.

Not all drop shanks are created equal. Some are 7” from receiver pin to mounting holes. Others are 8-9” or more depending on design. The further out you go, the more leverage your putting on the hitch/frame components. This also does not help your case. How much of a drop shank do you have?

I know you probably don’t feel like I support you or maybe understand what’s going on, but that would be a bad assumption. After the engineers found what they did, hiring a lawyer, in my humble opinion will waste more money than any loss you might have on selling your next to new truck, and buying something different or better suited to your total needs.

Hell, if you lived in CO instead of the right coast, I would totally let you test out my GMC 3500 to see if the problem still exists, see if your wife likes it.

I really enjoyed my Tundra...daily. However, it came down to towing ability in the end, and your camper is bigger/heavier than mine. I’ve never towed in your state, so maybe there is a huge difference from CO.

Hope this gets resolved in your favor. This must be very frustrating and for you.
