I posted those pictures backwards. It looks to me like they took it in for the suspension issue, Toyota recommended they replaced the struts, upper and lower ball joints, sway bar end links, and the cv axle.
They said no, but then came back later and had the lower ball joints and shocks (presumably the problem with the strut) replaced.
So now, just the upper ball joints need work to meet Toyotas "bare minimum". Plus the timing belt (if it's bad). Then later I could work on the cv axle and sway bar links right?

The last report I saw said "strut physically broken where it meets the lower control arm". I didn't see where they said struts were replaced, but I might've missed it. I was assuming the lower shock body snapped off, or more logically the bushing at the lower bolt is blown. If struts aren't new, 1st priority will be replacing the strut. If they are new, it should be pretty obvious in pictures. If they did the LBJ, that's great. I don't see where UBJ are done. Swaybar links are something you can do in 20 minutes casually. Easiest way to do them is to remove the nuts while the truck is on the ground, then jack up until it frees itself. Reinstall is the reverse. Either go OEM, or go with Suspension Maxx links (the part number has a "6" in it, their part number with a "7" in it is the extended link for lifted trucks).

The only way you'll know if UBJ need replacement is to get the truck home and to the slap/push-pull test to confirm whether the uppers are shot. They may be fine.

CV axles would be a concern, but sometimes they sling. You need to figure out how much sling happened, and if that sling is due to a tear in the boot or if it's from the boot itself.

Looks like they didn't replace the struts, but did replace the shocks. I assume that's the part of the strut that was broken. Glad to know the sway bar links aren't bad.

Strut is one of those terms that gets (ab)used frequently. Maybe they kept the factory spring, tophat, etc. and just replaced the shock body. If so, you probably just have old springs.

Nope. Just something to refresh later. You want mine? I've got 75k mile factory/OEM upper control arms, strut assemblies (shock portion needs replacement, springs etc. are great), my old leaf springs are available too, either as-is or with a add-a-leaf pack. I've got some premium 17" wheel I can part with also. You'd only need to drive another ~2.3 hrs south of Greenville, and I'd be willing to meet you halfway if it makes your life easier :D

(Seriously, I just need to declutter)

That truck looks in great shape. I'm definitely tempted, but its much easier to haggle when a truck has some problems.
I will definitely consider it if we decide to buy this one, or another in your area, thanks!

Yeah I kinda forget if the truck wasn't sold in a "cold weather state" it also isn't eligible for the recall.

New video from the dealer. I'm concerned about the part at about 0:14 it looks pretty bubbly. Or maybe that's just the cv slinging grease? Spare tire cross member looks in good shape, spare tire itself looks like shit though. Do y'all see anything too concerning?

Is this place near you OP? Like others have said the best course of action is to go look at the frame yourself with a hammer or screwdriver. The dealer can send you videos all he wants but if he’s trying to sell it he’s not gonna focus on or show trouble spots if there are any..

That's the problem, I didn't notice the search radius on autotempest when I found it. I'm in Louisville KY and this is in Greenville SC. So I can't really go out and get hands on it. Do we have any members from the Greenville area? Maybe I could buy someone a case of beer in exchange for giving it a good look.

Here is one in Richmond, KY. You might contact them for pictures of the frame. Much shorter drive from Louisville than South Carolina. I found mine on Facebook Marketplace after checking daily for several months. Bought mine off a guy outside of Milltown Indiana about an hour outside of Louisville. He was the 2nd owner, original owner had it in E-Town KY before that.

I just shot them a message, thanks. I've been looking on FB, autotempest, craigslist, Carfax, all over the place. I've had two different ones that looked to be in great condition that I saw on FB. And then I realized they were rwd and was disappointed.

    Welcome!

There was a local one here in Louisville I almost sent you, but it was RWD... I bet you already saw it.

Another 4wd truck is in town too, but it looks like someone spray painted over some rust...

Dude, the frame is pretty spotless.

This is classic CV grease sling, from the boot. Notice it's perfectly in line with the edge of the seal edge, and in a straight line on the crossmember that also lines up with the edge of the boot. It's not too much sling either, and may've been a one-time event. Mine slung more after my 2" lift than I see here, like 3x more than what I see here:

This is a fairly immaculate frame, it's totally shifty` approved.
