It's a mixed bag up there, the one thing I've seen pretty universal there is, everyone respects everyone else, and people don't fuck with you if you're different, and that's something I can get down with. If I have a choice between eating a plain old bag of salted peanuts, or beer nuts, I'm going with the beer nuts. I don't have to agree with everyone or everything people are doing, if their heart is in the right place. It's something I think we've forgotten, collectively, over the last 50-60 years.

We have certainly lost a lot over the past 50-60 years. Hope we can find our way back but im not optimistic, rarely works that way

Eh, it does. Just takes some individual effort from people willing to be what they want to see in order for it to happen.

    Or a cataclysmic event.

Muir Woods sounds like your thing. It's only an hour or so out of Vacaville and is stunningly gorgeous. From there you're just a short hop over the Golden Gate bridge to San Francisco. The variety of country is nothing short of amazing in N California. Enjoy.

That’s awesome. Made it to big trees near angels camp and avenue of the giants north of Garberville. Never saw those woods. Some pretty ones on the way to the coast near fort Bragg also.

I'd like to drive from somewhere in the West to New York before I die. I live in New York and often think of buying a car in Texas, California or Nevada and driving it home. I'd take a week though and drive between 8 and 10 hours per day. Now that I have a large garage, I dream of a nice sedan from the 80s or 90s. Once I'm done sorting out the frame of my Tundra, that's my next project.

I also want to do this. But drive all the way up to Alaska. Maybe all the way down to baja and then head east. Retire in the mountains

If I had only one shot at it I'd take I90 from the Pacific Northwest across to New York when the weather is right. While there's some nice areas there's also lot of desolate nothing along I80, I40 and I10.

Eric, Phil, I first have to decide which sedan to select. Any of these will be great for cross country trip. This will be my old man Sunday morning car. My other concern is when will I drive the Tundra if I already have two other vehicles.

    Sorry about hijacking the post.

The best cruising car I've ever owned was a 95 Jaguar XJS. The maintenance was a bitch but man if that thing didn't sail on the open road!

Had a LS400 for many years great car. I think the LS400 and LS430 are excellent luxury cars, last along time.

I owned this LS430 during the Covid years, 48K miles. I also had that mint Mercedes W140, which I could still buy back if I wanted to. Both were impressive vehicles.

For the next sedan, I thought I try my luck with an LS400 or go back to one of these.....not sure yet. That's why I need to decide which car first then actively look.

Man, that's exactly what I was looking for, just ideally not in black. I'd like to have it as a 2nd vehicle, beyond the truck. I even considered, at one weak moment, trading the Tundra for a really nice one, plus a decent chunk of cash. It's really hard to find one that either (A) hasn't been up north or (B) hasn't been clapped-out by someone in the negative-camber crowd. Or that someone bought and ultimately didn't take care of, so all the wood grain and plastics are sunbleached, seats are wrecked, etc. I've now sat in a couple, and drove one that belonged to my friend's uncle. Super nice car. I understand why you see a ton on the road, but rarely ever see them for sale. Same with the LS460!

I won't buy anything RHD. I drove a manual transmission RHD sedan cross-country and back thru Ireland a few years ago with the kids. Started in Dublin, drove down to Kilkenny, then to Cork, over to Killarney, then to Dingle, then to Limerick, Galway for a couple of days, then took the trek back to Dublin to fly out. It was bad enough driving on the wrong side of the car, shifting with the wrong hand, being on the wrong side of the road. I don't need to be driving on the wrong side of the car on the right side of the road! I'm not a USPS mail carrier!!

But on the topic, we saw this the other day when we took the kids to one of their favorite pizza/wings places in the city. That's a "dealer" tag if not obvious.

Hey Shifty, I've thought of the LS460 also but all the advice comes back points to the 430 and the 400. The 460 will have some standard modern amenities but coming from Tundras, they may not mean much to you and I. Those amenities also make the 460 a car you depend on the dealer to fix anything, as opposed to DiY.

I also refuse to buy anything RHD or drive in a country on the left side of the road as I know my mind muscle will mess me up.

The Acura Legend and its younger siblings (RL and RLX) are also being considered. There is a theory that Sedans will eventually disappear as "stick shift" vehicles almost have. I learned to drive on stick shift Civic wagon and while growing up, it was understood that only women drove automatic and that men drove stick. This was the mentality in Latin America in the 70s and 80s.

You'd be surprised how fast/easy you pick it up. Let me be clear: I'm grateful I didn't pick up the rental car until we were leaving Dublin. Because I would NOT have wanted to drive around in a city with that thing. But picking up the car on the way out of town, and being able to get acclimated on the highway, it made all the difference in the world for me. Once you get out on the open road and are driving on the wrong side of the road, and only having to shift periodically, it gives your brain a chance to warm up to it. Obviously, it must be possible for the human brain, or mail carriers would be incapable of driving their LHD vehicle home at the end of the day after being RHD all day long.

That said, I can't even imagine driving RHD in a city like Atlanta. I'd probably crash or have an accident within the first month.

Only 40 so I'm gonna be a real mess by 50.

If this search has taught me anything, it's that there's a surprising number of clean low-mileage 1st Gens still available that aren't priced like they're on BaT. If anything, finding a seller that's willing to put in the extra effort in dealing with an out of state buyer is the harder part.

    You'll get yours :fistbump:

BaT has messed up the used car market badly. Between that and what happened during CovID, it’s a sad day for buyers.
