I agree! When I sold my last truck I had over 30 emails about it from Craigslist, atleast half seemed serious and legit. I had a showing setup for 9am on a Saturday. Friday night another person hit me up about seeing it first Saturday so I told him 8am. The 9am person hit me back and asked if they were the first showing, I said no. They then told me they’re 2 hours away and I asked for a phone number and I’d let them know asap if the first guy bought it. They never replied that evening and had my phone number. I get a text from the 9am guy the next morning that said they left early in hopes to see it first. Both buyers arrived at 7:30am. It was a strange scenario as a seller. I let them all check it out first and then let the 8am guy drive it first. He comes back, jumps out and says this thing is sweet, I’ll take it! I just had to look at the 2nd guy and say sorry. Made it easy to be firm on the price with 2 cash buyers there at the same time but I’m sure that was a long 2 hour ride home with nothing for the other guy. They should’ve texted me back Friday night and I would’ve told them 7am.

It's a tough scenario. With so many flakes, you just can't count on anyone being honest. First come, first right of refusal has to be the policy. No holding.

I'd tend to agree, but we've had a couple of guys on here who've driven 2, 3, 4 hours to get to a truck, only to have is sold out from under them en route. And the seller knew.

It's a tough call. I sell refurb'd trendy pedal bikes on Craigslist as an easy way to beef up funds for whatever automotive stuff I've got going on. I realize there are a lot of tirekickers out there who just want to talk, waste time, or lowball. It's a tough to read people via email. That long-distance driver should've emailed back or texted as asked, if still awake, or called. Sometimes buyers are too trusting. Their loss. But it's a fine line to dance between getting screwed and screwing someone else.

If they were both serious at asking price, I’d have been tempted to flip a coin for it.

    but I have guilt issues.

FIFO is one option but it’s not necessarily the optimal algorithm for low throughout

I'd feel pretty guilty also. But I've also had my compassion diminished, nearly having to put lead in someone unhappy, who decided to come back to my house later, thinking I wouldn't be prepared to deal with the situation. Their mistake.

Needless to say, anything of value that could manage to chap someone's ass that bad, I don't meet at my house anymore. And if it's not worth what my job pays me for half an hour's work, and none of my immediate neighbor friends want it, it goes to charity.

Mury wife said I should’ve bumped it $500 and see who was interested more.
