We have recently gotten a discord, but a lot of guys are reluctant to use it and prefer Slack. Old guys stuck in their ways. :D

We're mostly Xbox, with some PS4 and PC guys sprinkled in.

Not sure if any of you follow the back story of Fortnite and notice the changes that occur on a daily bases as the seasons move forward, However, yesterday I noticed several changes in the landscape. As you all know at the beginning of this season, the meteor hit Dusty Depot. I don't jump in Dusty all that much, but I've noticed over the last few weeks as I've run through, that drilling has been occurring on the meteor. Well yesterday, I noticed that the meteor was completely opened up and there is a capsule in it. Something/someone was in the capsule and the capsule is now open. Whatever it was, escaped and crashed through the side of the tent (big hole), knocked over the helicopter and smashed through the surrounding wall. Doing some more investigation, there are now rows of dump trucks and government cars (black sedans) in various parts of the map. Also, there are now 3 new movie titles on the sign at the Risky drive in theater. Oh, I also made a jump to the missile silo over near snobby shores and found some changed environment. There are now some gravity "pop rocks" in the pool and numerous large meteor rocks spread all through out the silo.

I do like the back story and find it intriguing how they keep it moving beyond just a player v player mode.

There's actually 2 versions of the game. "Save the World" is a "pay for" game with the fighting of zombies only. No player verses player. The other and more popular game is the free "Battle Royale" which is the PvP . The island you land on is supposed to be the "after" zombie invasion which is why everything is so torn up and deserted. The ongoing story is the rebuild of the island and all the strange events that occur such as the meteor, super villains, aliens, etc. The designers keep filling in the story on a daily basis which is why you cannot rely on items your used to being in certain places remaining there or new items/areas. Example: did you know there is a secret mission control base in one of the houses in "Salty". There is a sub basement 2 floors under ground in the blue house. You have to bash through the basement floor under the stairs to get to the second sub basement.

Alright, so I gave this a shot a couple of nights ago. The first player I saw killed me, and I turned it off. This game sucks.

I play this game a lot with my son and some friends and here are my thoughts on it.

    1) There is quite a bit of cross platform capability. This means that players on a PC can play with XBox, Nintento Switch and mobile players. The only exception is that PS4 restricts cross ability. I mention this because players on a PC have an advantage with all the key shortcuts and such and most PC players are much better than console players.

    2) The game is now in it's 5th season and 1 year anniversary. Since the game has "building" capability, it used to be most players towards the end game would each build their own mini fort and battle it out from fort to fort. Now, a lot of players are downright good and they engage each other in what is called "build battles". This is where they go crazy building around each other while fighting and usually end up in some massive structure with ramps/walls everywhere. So, unless your a good builder, you usually don't stand a chance against these guys/gals.

    3) There are now so many populated areas that no matter where you go, there is usually someone lurking around the corner.

Even though I've played this for some time now, I still find myself frequently getting my butt kicked

It’s tough to get into something when more experienced players wipe you out all the time. I know, because I do it to people on The Division pretty regularly.

As a side note, I just finished God Of War. That game is amazing.

I agree. I would suggest that while you get used to playing it to do a little "camping". The experienced players hate these guys/gals. Get a weapon or 2 and hide in a building or bush and simply wait for people to come by. Most players are so used to engaging opponents face to face that they forget about those hiding behind a door or crate and then get taken by surprise.

I was working on some of the game challenges last night and was not so concerned with "run and gunning" play. I was working on my sneak attacks by dropping some nice weapons and health/shield on the ground and then hide nearby. So, as opponents wold come by they see the loot and go for it not realizing I'm hiding behind a door and simply pop out when their not looking and take them out. Took out many last night doing this. There's no shame in playing peek-a-boo approach. :)

I would suggest just the opposite. One of the frustrating things for me is diving in somewhere sort of remote, and getting a few guns/mats and then immediately dying upon seeing the first person you run into. You've spent too much time in the game to die so quickly, and you have not gotten any experience but the one fight after 5 minutes of poking around. Jump into Tilted, or the first major POI when the bus enters the map, dive straight down and grab the first gun you see, then try to kill someone. Instead of waiting minutes for a fight, you are immediately getting into the thick of it. It will be frustrating at first, but you will get better more quickly diving right into it.

Then, you'll have to get used to building, which is something I can't do as quickly as a lot of other people. I can get by, though. That's a whole other animal, but is just as important as gun skill in this particular game. This isn't my main game, but my kids like to play it, and want me to play it with them.

Oh I know all about playing like a sneaky bastard. My favorite strategy in The Division is to wait until someone is fighting it out with another player and firing explosives at his back.

Yea, I can see that to an extent. That's how my son plays... He's a pure run and gunner. I've learned to hate Tilted because most likely you're going to go down 95% of the time. I'm a mix player most of the time. I move around quite a bit but play a good strategist. If I'm playing solo and get to the final 5, I kick into stealth mode. I know the final 5 will most likely be really good so I play strategy to get them to play against each other. I try to position myself so that as the final 2 are engaging each other, I'm ready to pounce on the finalist while he's/she's weaker from the last fight. I've won many of games with this approach. I even won one game once without firing a shot at the final guy. As soon as the final guy won his battle with #3, I pounced. However, The #3 guy had a rocket in the air when he died so before I could even get a shot off, the rocket landed and took out #2. Go figure!
