Was curious how many here who shut off the fake engine noise are happy with it and left it off?

Have an appointment with the dealer on Friday for some recalls and new tires and figured I'd ask them to shut off the fake noise.

I mean it sounds nice enough with it on but would like to see how it sounds when its off...

    What you guys think?

    Thanks,
    David

I disabled mine right out of the gate,no regrets, but I did swap out the exhaust cat back on day two.

That was the first thing I did. I wasn’t overly against it, then I towed a heavy trailer for 700 miles and the constant f’kn rumbling drove me crazy.
I far prefer to hear those twin turbos sing versus piped in combustion chamber.

and you still hear the engine, just on your terms. I would NEVER turn it back on. If you lived closer I would do it for you.

I left mine off too. You can always subscribe to Carista and get an OBD dongle to turn it back on if you miss it (you won't).

I came from an F150 with a 302 and a Magnaflow exhaust. The Tundra is not a V8, and trying to make a 6cyl sound like one by playing fake engine noise over the stereo doesn’t work. I couldn’t wait to turn it off and would never go back.

If you are American, just order a Carista for $30 ( us Canadians get taken to the cleaners on duty ). You will want to also change your ambient temperature to -2 , turn off every fricken seat belt warning, change your lane change blinks from 3-5. It comes with a trial period, make all your changes for free then shut off the subscription.
    They are simple to use

I asked the dealer to turn mine off when I was last in for service. They had no clue that the fake engine noise was a thing. Apparently, vehicle owners can turn it off themselves. Service advisor told me the option is buried deep in the menu of the infotainment center somewhere. I haven't bothered to look because I'm never going to turn it back on.

Some other Toyota vehicles, yes I think they began allowing to disable the fake engine sound. Tundra 2022 - no, I believe you have to ask dealer or use Carista.

I had it disabled it at 1k miles. No reason to hear fake rumbling sound when you're driving slowly and barely pressing the accelerator pedal

ya, I turned mine off ASAP. it seemed like a fake video game noise that is not even proportioned to the RPMs

annoying as hell, mine will stay off.

my truck is nice and quiet and then I can here the turbos spool, BOOST, HA

you cannot turn this off in a menu, must be Carista or tech stream, I used the former

I too turned it off using Carista. I felt like it was a cheap trick by Toyota to make a 6 cylinder sound like something it's not. The turbo sound is good enough. Never doubted my decisions to turn it off.

Turned mine off at 1000 miles, enjoy the quiet. Can hear the turbos on the freeway on-ramp now. It’s not a terrible sound, just more noise that can tiring on a long trip. I’d rather hear the radio

I don't have the upgraded audio, so I don't have the augmented engine noise. It still sounds better than the 4.0 4runner.

In fairness all the car manufacturers are doing this, not just Toyota. I think it started with the Ford Raptor.

You guys know it’s Not Fake. Theres a transducer in the intake manifold that feeds an audio signal to the premium JBL system that blends the sound into the system’s output. I don’t have it but would like to hear it sometime

Its not fake, but I was never a fan of loud gas engine noises.

If it was a Cummins 5.9 form 2001, I'd listen to it, but the rest doesn't interest me. Mine has been off since I brought the truck home and I'm happy about it.

Buy a Carista if you are not sure and just turn it on / off yourself if you're unsure.

I dont really mind it, but I'd be curious to hear a vehicle without it.

It would be nice if they could do a software update to allow it to be user selectable.

Be fun if you could have options like...

    -On
    -Off
    -Diesel
    -V12
    -Two Stroke

I thought someone on hear in another post mentioned that as an option to see the difference in sound. I had not tried it but thought it might be an option for the OP.

Ooohh, how 'bout one of the WWII Allison or Rolls Royce Merlin engines that the Thunderboats used to run?!

Fake engine noise is just goofy.

Makes me think of watching a movie car chase and you hear the car that's been an automatic the whole time shifting as a manual, and the tires are squealing on a dirt road. :annoyed::frusty:

To be fair I didn’t think it was bad until I towed for 3 straight days. I was ready to blow my brains out after that.
