Sorry for no recent updates guys.. been super slammed with farm work and building a ladder rack for a customer.. planning to get back to it this afternoon/weekend and hoping to have at least the deck painted by then Monday if not the entire bed

Now that's one beautiful flat bed. If my boss would buy Tundras, I'd want something like this. Add a few tie downs or wheel stops for a four wheeler and I'd be in business.

Saw a design similar to this on a LT Taco build on Instagram, the only difference is that the angled part of the bed extended all the way back to the rear of the flatbed.

If my business didn’t have a need for the large rear deck as a workin area I’d probably have continued it further back... as it is, wait for the final results and I think you’ll be wanting one even more for a work truck if your require tie downs and room for a bike

Sorry to have not updated this in a while guys... work has been super busy and I haven’t got a whole lot done on it.

I did get the tank mount setup going and the design is basically done and tacked onto the truck

Thank you! I am very happy with how these have turned out so far, they’re extremely stable... I’ll be adding a strap with lock below the deck to make sure no one can take them but as they sit they don’t even budge on the dirt roads!

Anyone near Va have a set of factory leaf springs off their truck? I did a mod on my Tacoma using 2 sets of factory springs that I’d like to repeat on this truck but I need a second set... made a thread about his but it hasn’t got a lot of hits yet

Very simple... take apart both packs, cut the leaves of one to fit in between the other.. so take the longest and cut it down to whatever the midpoint between the longest and second longest leaf is, and repeat until you’re at the smallest size. Repack with new center pins and reinstall. For my Tacoma it gave me between a 2-3 inch lift that was true suspension and flexed great

I'm interested to see this completed. The concept works in my head. Longer center pin and longer u-bolts should be all you need after getting a donor pack. One of the most interesting things I've read on the interwebs in a long time.

It worked out great in my Tacoma and I’m hoping it would here too... the only painful part is that you have to cut them without major heat (like a torch) so all I’ve got is an angle grinder and it takes FOREVER

Oh, and speaking of suspension... can someone with a stock truck give me a measurement between the top of the leaf springs right next to the bump stop and the frame? I’ll post of pic of where I mean exactly here shortly... I think I’ve only lost about a 1/2 inch so far but I forgot to take good measurements at the beginning so I don’t really know

Have you used a diamond wheel in a 4.5" grinder yet? They work great for everything I have cut with one.

Yes, as a welder/fabricator I use that setup multiple hours a day and it works great! But leaf springs are ~1/2” thick... still take a while

Also, here’s the pick of the suspension measurements I’m looking for:
    1DA4F7A4-F570-4C5A-BCD2-44F8DBE8B3E2.jpg

That’s right in front of the bump stop on the deovers side... don’t worry about what that number looks like right now, I just took a quick shot to show placement but the truck isn’t sittin flat at all currently and had a trailer attached

Now that’s an interesting idea, never thought of that before. Are ya still gonna use the overloads?

The factory overload stays in but just the one. I think my Tacoma I cut the one on the drivers side to be the shortest and included it but that to fix the taco lean issue

I'm looking forward to seeing this in action! I wonder how good of flex you'd have on an off-road build if you tried this, and if you could get 1-2" without the overloads.

For the Tacoma it was great! I drove that thing on the harder section of the downhill at Top of the World in Moab, Ut and stuffed the rear tires so many times without loosing traction at all on the opposite side

I have a dewalt chop saw but for this stuff I’d use the angle grinder any day... way too much of a pain to set up and not a straight enough cut on something that thick with the chop saw. I was a band saw some kinda bad and it’ll be happening in the next few months I hope but that’ll just depend on work load and income...

Also, sorry for the lack of build updates, every chance I get to work on the flatbed something comes up... did get a little done last night though

Boxed in the back of the drivers side flare
    68067455-2313-46D8-81E6-B49C1B855788.jpg

That was done with 1/8” sense it’s got the highest potential of getting beaten when stuff is getting loaded. The 2 section towards the front will just be 1/16” as they may take a little abuse but they’re mostly just fill plates and saving weight is key here.

Also got the bottom plate of the rear box cut and heavily tacked in... I won’t fully weld it until all the pieces are in. Would have loved to have built a brake to bend at least the sides and bottom as one piece but hey... not everything can be done at once!

    3A7D4AD7-9F46-4428-AE60-5E977A82C3B8.jpg
    3029C119-801D-47D8-A3D2-744AE5DF5EE8.jpg

Please ignore the messy wiring... once this box gets finished that will all get loomed and tucked away

Hey all... sorry for not getting back to this sooner, I’ve been very busy with work and then my cheapo first welder broke so I’ve had to upgrade to new Miller unit.. anyway, haven’t had any time to work on the bed recently but it’s looking like rain more of this week so hopefully I’ll get a lot of it wrapped up...

I did get time today to paint the grill surround and continue my chrome delet process:
    5CD3F3B2-59FC-4F6D-838E-2C688D3B8802.jpg

The paint was supposed to be a color match by duplicolor but it’s obviously not right... I don’t really mind that it’s a little off, sill a lot better than chrome! If anyone have used their color matching system and had better results please tell me what color code you used.. this was for MGM which I thought was what my truck is but ya..

^ Yeah, that's a little off. Does not look bad though. Off by a lot is actually better than just slightly off. This looks like an intentional 2-tone effect. Maybe paint the flat bed the same color to bring it all together.

My plan was to color match the outer rail of the flatbed. The deck is getting hurculiner bedliner bother for protection and to give me as much electrical insulation as I can

Has anyone used the duplicolor system to match MGM yet though?? I’m beginning to wonder if my truck is just a different color
