I recently bought a 2014 Tundra (54K miles) and I loved it until I had to change the oil and filter. The splash plate is a terrible design and I'm going to fix it to make removal and reassembly easy. I have several ideas including using a hole saw to cut a hole so I can change the filter without removing the splash plate at all. I'm new to the site so I thought I'd ask for other ideas just to get familiar with the process. What have you all done to get around this issue? Thanks

There's few people who made doors on theirs, rci skid plates have doors. Upgrade to a trd pro one, they have doors too.

That is what I was going to do next time I had it off. Just don't cut it on the wrong side like one dude did. Now he has 2 holes. I asked him for measurements but never heard back. Might be a good thing.

So far the hole sounds like the simplest solution and I'll be careful to not only get it in the right location but to make it as small as possible. I hate the idea of buying a new splash plate with a door which is how all splash plates should have been made in the first place. Kind of like giving you a spare that's not the same size as your other wheels - wait a minute, that's exactly what they did on my truck! Who thinks of this stuff anyway?

Someone cut a hole in mine prior to me buying the truck. It’s about 4” diameter, just enough to get a hand up into and pull the lube filter out of.

And that’s where some of your minds went in the gutter.
