So I’m new to this sight. I have stock 2007 SR5 5.7 double cab with 181,000. A bit of rust on bumpers but truck looks good from a distance. I am original owner, love it and would hopefully keep but at what cost. Runs n drives fine, check engine,4lo, vsc, and the anti lock break lights all on. It was in limp mode, shop claimed 6 solenoid issue, told me to drive in 4th gear. Happened again about 2 years later, it was the throttle body and secondary air pump. Truck ran great for couple weeks, lights are back on but truck is running fine. Here in NJ those dash lights will not pass inspection, I’m the original owner. I tow a boat that weighs 1000 with the trailer included. Fix of time to cut the truck? Thanks

    Welcome to the forum.

Have an 07 as well with 163k miles and starting to need a little more attention.

I would think for about $2-4k you could get everything in good shape to pass inspection. I would look at that as 4-8 months of a new truck note, and not 48-60 months.

Regarding the secondary air pump; there are bypass kits available for a few hundred $, that will eliminate the need for it. It is expensive to have repaired and not pertinent to anything but your trucks ECM.

    Good Luck!

I replaced the secondary air pump, I have the tranny issue and an evap code. The code is why it will not pass inspection.

Sounds like it's time to move where inspections don't matter and cost of living is lower. Keeping a vehicle you have is usually going to be cheaper on the wallet than buying something to replace it, but it can be more inconvenient and take more time. It's truly a personal decision on what you prioritize.

Actually dealing with evap codes now as well.

    Some discussion.

I went with the Rockauto option and codes are back after about a week. Had a mechanic take a look and he recommended replacing with Toyota oem canaster. Parts have been on sale at dealers online sites.

Replacement not too bad as diy.

No idea on the trannny issue. Google & YouTube and local transmission shops for info.

    Good Luck!

So update, looks like the thought is to replace the valve body and if that doesn’t fix then it would be a rebuild of the tranny. Still seems worth it. Truck looks good, small tear in driver seat and small rust on rear bumper.

So returning back to this. did some stuff to truck, shift solenoid, mass airflow sensor and valve body. truck is running sweet.
-passed NJ inspection put about 450 miles and CEL came on
    -for about 50 miles,
    - then went off for about 150 miles,
    - then came back on after 70 miles
I did get a warning from shop the secondary airpump may be an issue with the CEL
truck is running smooth, fast and quiet.
