    There have been several threads related to this but they were all helpful to me as I did my research, this forum overall has been super helpful. This might be a long one but hopefully it helps, you can do a few test drives as I have but you really don't know until you make the decision.

    I traded in my 2016 Limited last week on a 2024 SR5 with the "premium TRD off road package" - almost all of what you get with a limited for a few thousand $ less actually way less than a limited with the TRD off road. 14" screen, softex heated seats, etc. Plus it has 18" wheels, not sure what the deal is with 20" wheels on a truck that leaves the pavement.

    The 5.7 has been proven to be pretty reliable and sounds great, but the reality is the new engine is vastly superior in the 500 miles I have on it. I live in the mountains in Colorado, bought the new truck in Denver. I always thought the 5.7 was pretty good on mountain passes, especially in tow/haul mode. The 5.7 knows it is going uphill, you have to drop the hammer - the new truck really doesn't mind going uphill seems to be working much less. I generally got around 14 mpg hammering on I70, got 19 on my way home after purchase, granted driving according to break in procedures. (screen shows 16.7 but I hand calculated on fill up and it was just below 19). I also had the dealership put on my lightly used 275/70 18 KO2 E load in exchange for the stock tires so pretty happy with the mileage. Should get better as things break in.

    To address concerns:

    The seats are great, much better for my 6'2" frame. The 2016 felt like a bench, I had to keep moving around to stay comfy, these seats seem to support you in a better position, never felt like I had to move around.

    Android Auto is awesome, car play I assume as well. I'm an old guy and was always squinting at google maps on my phone to the point it was really frustrating. 14" screen, no problems. I know that is not just a toyota deal but the tech on my 2016 was really bad in hindsight. My wife's 2016 Subaru was so far ahead. That being said, everything you need, hvac etc. has buttons which I love. You only need the screen for nav, apps, music, etc. Everything else has a button, not like the F150 I test drove.

    There is a bit of wind noise if there is strong crosswind on my truck, otherwise really quiet - way much less road noise than the 2016 with the same tires. Night and day actually.

    Turning radius sucks. Way worse, there are several spots where I live where my old truck made the turn - this one won't. Not sure the difference in numbers but it is real.

    Plastics on the interior are thin, but they were pretty shitty on the last one to be honest.

    Storage under the rear seats is way better, the 2016 was a joke.

    All things considered, in my opinion the truck is a massive improvement over the last generation but we'll see how the reliability is. If I live in the middle of nowhere and absolutely need my truck to run I would have kept the 2016. Actually I would have kept my 1994 80 series...

    You will get a lot of opinions back for sure.

    I have a 22 SR5 TRD Sport premium. It is the best riding and handling truck I have ever owned, to include better than my previous Ram.

    I have had a few small issues. My Chevy 1500 and 2500 had zero warranty work done. My Ram was out of service a month for an EGR cooler replacement. So it is not the worst but not the best in terms of sweating the detail quality .

    Holding out on my level of discontent to see how the engine replacement goes. If I am in a Rav 4 more then a week, in limbo waiting on it for years, and the new engine does not receive a full warranty then my future buying decisions will be impacted.

    I agree about the turning radius. I mean, I'm aware it's a truck, but I've driven some bigger vehicles that I felt like would sharper.

    Great review, thanks. I have a '24 Limited Hybrid with 5k miles on it. There was a spreadsheet someone posted that showed that there were actually some hybrids with the engine problem, Hopefully someone can shed some light on that. I was hoping for better mpg's with the hybrid, but I only get about 20 mpg. Seems to be getting a little better as the engine loosens up. Huge turning circle is my biggest concern.

    Really sucks pulling by 7klb RV trailer, drops to below 10. Plenty of power and stability then though.

    My biggest complaint is that there aren't indicators for the rate of charge and discharge to the hybrid system. It would be nice to know when I'm braking hard enough to actuate the friction brakes as well, to maximize charge when slowing.

    It does get a lot better fuel economy than my '96 FZJ80 did though, almost 50% better mpg. That was a real Land Cruiser though, not like these new Prado's out now.

    Like you said, waiting to see how the reliability is!

    I came from an F250, so there's no comparison. My 24 limited rides like a car, haven't towed yet. So far I don't really have any complaints, it does have more wind noise but I'm happy with the truck & hopefully it'll be reliable for years. Only about 300 miles on it so far so still tyring to get used to it.

    When an adult can't move that concrete block fast enough, just adrenaline rush a kid and let him handle that block, right? He seems to have no problem moving concrete that an adult struggled with. He'll be also getting a free disabled parking permit, ain't that cool?

    Great post - appreciate it. Considering a 2024 Limited TRD Off-Road to replace my SR5 TRD Off-Road, but thinking the TRD Off-Road Premium package might be a better fit. The seat comfort of the stock SR5 is lacking, IMO, but beyond that the SR5 isn't bad - wondering if the premium makes a good difference so appreciate the review.

    Well I traded in my 07 Tundra and a 23 Tacoma for this one. I pull a 8K trailer and my 07 was a real workhorse. Besides a water pump and a starter I never had any problems with it. I hope the new one can do as good or better pulling. The ride quality and comfort is better in the 24. I'm not going to say it's a world of difference, but it is noticeable. I knew it was time to trade in both trucks when i realized i could pull a big trailer and still get almost the same gas mileage as my Tacoma when driving as a daily. So far, I do love the truck though.

    I agree ! It’s totally unfair to change the rules for hauling concrete . That’s child labour and the WEF and climate suckers should be ashamed !!! Our kids will never live as long as we did LOL :p

    Thanks for the review. I’ll be in a similar situation in a few years I think. Bummer to hear on the turning radius. Thats one of the things I appreciate most about my 08 when I’m in the mountains.

    yes but they don’t spend 24/7 moving concrete blocks so the young kid will get a disabled parking permit at 65 when the old man gets a disabled parking permit at 67, but the young kid made way more money over his lifespan and can retire much more comfortably

    Did you trade-in the 2016 with knowledge of the 3rd Gen engine TSB? If so, what's the main driver for switching at this time vs. waiting for the official fix from Toyota given there are posts of other years (23 and 24) being affected as well?

    I had a luxury of seeing how basically the same engine ages, in natural aspiration form (Volvo B5244S) and turbocharged (B5254T2). Turbocharged retired at like 40. It was fun to drive and handled everything with no effort. But died at 220k miles, of burnt exhaust valve. N/A variant lost compression at like 400k miles. Fully worn piston rings.

    Oh, I replaced turbo at 170k. At various mileage replaced wastegate control valve and its vacuum lines, intercooler pressure/temperature sensor, fuel pressure sensor - all of this is not present in N/A version. PCV system is a nightmare, had to replace it twice. Replaced PCV on N/A once, and it was clean, with no hardened rubber nor brittle plastic, i.e. was fully working.

    Turbo is fun to drive, but it comes at cost. I still have that turbo and dumped the N/A.

    You are right, that turbo engine didn't have two model years of replacement recall. V35A-FTS is already a worse engine.

    In full disclosure.. I have been a happy Ford guy for a couple decades. Had many many of them in all forms. Very few problems that weren't easily resolved. I wanted a 6' bed and just couldn't find one last year when i found the Tundra. So I bought a 2023 Limited extra cab used that had 1600 miles on it. My first impressions were similar to the OP. Seats are very comfy for my 6-2" 220 pound frame. No complaints. Turning radius is horrible... Horrible.. Fit and finish of interior is better than average.Exterior fit and finish also better than average. Paint was much better than average. Large touch screen is fantastic. Power is also more than i had expected. Im mostly on the highway and avg mpg is 18.2 on stock tires and 700 pounds of cargo plus occupant weight. Ride quality is very nice with just enough feedback in the wheel so you can feel the road. My 2023 had a 70mph vibration that numerous weeks at the dealer could not resolve.. So i dumped it and bought a 2024 4 door long bed Limited TRD. No vibration.. same driving experience.. But at 3500 miles it has a leaky rear main seal.. Im fairly annoyed with the trucks at this point. It goes to the dealer this week to get fixed.. If there is any more BS with it, I'll dump it and get another F150. Hopefully that's not going to be the case as i really do like the Tundra. But I just can't have a work vehicle tied up with stupid problems.

    I only pull a 5K RV and the truck gets terrible mileage (expected) and has a terrible sag on the rear suspension. I would have to add bags to fortify the rear suspension sag. But, I am getting rid of it (the 24 Tundra TRD Off Road) sometime soon. Before I hit 5K miles and more problems.

    terrible sag with 5K lbs? got a pic of that set-up, perhaps its loaded tongue heavy or something. There are tons of guys with that and more weight with no problems. Something seems off with that

    Two responses... One, my brother-in-law had a lifter delaminate on his 2023 F250 gasser, and yes, for that, they replaced the long block. You're still not going to have Toyota's long term reliability though.

    Also, unless you go for a big buck diesel, you're still going to get terrible gas mileage towing. I think the factory anti-sway system works fine for sway with that small of a trailer, I got air bags and they work well to level it.

    I am aware of the issues, but I look at it this way - my build date is 8/24. Toyota changed part numbers, manufacturing process at some point can't remember the exact date but it was a while ago. They are now cutting production to build engines for the recall. I can't imagine they would be doing that unless confident in the engines going forward. But who knows I could be wrong.

    Plus I think I got a pretty decent deal and value for my trade. I have the platinum 100k warranty, never considered that on any of my previous Toyotas but at the price I paid it made sense to me.

    The off road premium package hit the sweet spot for me. Gets you almost all of what the limited off road offers for quite a bit less. Plus it has 18" wheels, 20" wheels don't make much sense to me on a vehicle that will see time off road. The package was kind of hard to find in my area though.

    I completely agree. I did my research 1st I found a late 24 build (7/24) and ran my VIN in the parts catalog to find I have the newest short block part #, the newest turbo part # and the main bearings in my block are the newest part #….and I do believe Toyota will resolve this issue if they haven’t already

    I really do think think this is the best bang for buck package for my needs. The 14" screen is really great, don't think I'd get the smaller screen no matter what package. I opened the sunroof on my 2016 maybe 20 times. 18" wheels were a priority as was the big screen and this is the best way I found to get it.

    I agree. It's under warranty so who really cares if it's recalled for a new engine. Way I see it is mine is a 22 and if they stick a brand new bullet in there....excellent news.

    I was initially very hesitant to get out of my 2014 with 180k miles on it for a new one - to the point I was looking for low mileage 2021s to replace it with.

    Ended up in a 2024 Limited CPO for a good price and really can't complain. I figure the 7 year 100k drivetrain warranty will cover any engine issues that arise. I have a 3rd vehicle as well if it ends up in the shop.
    The 2024 is miles ahead of the last generation in so many ways. I don't anticipate any issues to be honest, statistically it should be just fine.
    There is some wind noise on the new one, but it is so much quieter than the 2014 its amazing and I don't see any reason to try to change anything with that. Its a truck, it will get 34" AT tires and a small lift eventually and at 80 mph on the highway my guess is that is all I will hear.

    There are a lot of complaints out there - which I don't doubt are real for the people who are having the issues. But I am very happy with the truck so far.
