First Gen Trans Temp Mode?

    Well i'm looking to do a fluid change on my 2005 Tundra and both OBDII readers I planned to use don't read trans temp.

    Wondering if the method of jumping the OBD outlet with a piece of wire and then shifting back and forth between N and D works for these trucks?

    I would prefer to use a scanner so looking into Techstream

    Imma keep it stock
    I know there are a ton of posts about using scanguage to do it, but that's all I remember. Maybe you can try the jumper wire mod (at your own expense) and report back, for science.

    Installed a Scangauge II on my 01 AC several weeks ago and set one of the customizable ports to read the trans temp. Works perfect.

    That’d be nice. The Autel scanner we have doesn’t seem to read any trans temps let alone the FGT’s.

    My OBDII reader and app also pull trans temp from the ECU. I just use that instead of the FSM jumper method.

    Seems to me that unless you can see a live gauge while actually towing down the road, or especially up a hill, a normal OBDII reader isn't of much use. You need a gauge in front of you that you can keep an eye on in real time under all conditions.

    OBD Link gives live data via your phone screen, and can also record.

    Thanks again Fragman, that method worked as it should. Turned out I had some extra in there cuz I put back what I pumped out and was sorta shocked at how much came out of the drain tube
